After reading all the press that ULSD will be released nationwide by October, I am still wondering if we're actually getting it here in the South. I can still smoke pretty good in 2nd gear. Isn't ULSD going to take away our ability to smoke 'em? I must not be running on ULSD then.

You can still smoke with ulsd. ULSD is not available everywhere yet, less than half the stations here have it. My question is why everyone insists on blowing a ton of smoke, that is wasted fuel and all it is going to accomplish is the EPA coming down on us and taking away our ability to bomb our trucks. Don't get me wrong, I have been guilty on occasion, being cut off or tailgaters, or of course hauling heavy, but please excersise control, big brother IS watching.

We're on ULSD here locally - and it does seem that my truck is smoking less, and the density/color of the smoke seems a bit lighter... Haven't really got close to the tailpipe to see if the odor is less strong than with the older fuel - some guys seem to think the ULSD emits less offensive odor at the tailpipe.

Don't get me wrong either. I can't afford to smoke all the time (wasted fuel). Plus, believe it or now, I do try to concious of the environment. But hey, it's the small things in life. Tell me this: What's up with everyone burning their trash (wood/ tree limbs etc. ) in the South. I came from the West Coast where this was strictly forbidden. Here my neighbors laugh at me when I haul away my construction debris or tree limbs to the dump rather than burn as they do.

That said, when I do "smoke 'em" it's HIL. A couple of weeks ago I was merging over two lanes in order to get freeway access. A lady (an attorney I believe cause I've seen her around town before) was nearly 10 car lengths behind me and I was making a very casual merge, no erratic driving. Well, she just about came out of her skin because I got in front of her beloved Infiniti FX. I could see her waving her arms in the air and making gestures in what seemed to be a fit of rage against my needed move to get to the freeway lane. After watching her tyraid for a few seconds, I got on it and she quickly learned the result of bombing a CTD. She drove up beside me and started screaming at me... . with her windows up. So I got in front of her and did it again... 6 more times. You should've seen the look on her face. Although I couldn't really make out all the facial expressions due to the smoke, what I did see was priceless nonetheless.

Ahhhhhhhhhh... the small things in life.

When the pumps have ULSD do they have to have the sticker that says ULSD, is that a reliable way to tell if the pump is ULSD fuel?

Also, I live on the west coast (western washington) we burn weed and plant matter all the time, that and cardboard. Its pretty much the same as a camp fire, except bigger and nothing wrong with it. however, burning plastic and trash like that isn't cool in residential areas simply becuase of the smell.

Call Bob Wagner and get on the Smarty loaner list. Upon receipt, download #9. Seek out tailgaters, depress accelerator,no more problem. Yes you can definitely smoke on ULSD.

My truck doesn't smoke much unless I have a load on it, like a heavy trailer. That's with Smarty on #9.

To be legal, the pump has to have a sticker on it saying Low Sulpher Diesel or Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel. LSD can damage 07. 5 and up trucks.

As far as burning, you are still putting particulates into the air which do contribute to smog and acid rain.

thats what i never could understand, why don't they make us burn a certain type of wood when camping, or put some kind of catalyist in our chimney's vehicles aren't the only poluters, the way SOME people act on here you would think that if vehicles were all hybrid there would no longer be polution of any kind. i think the tree huggers don't take into account all the things some times. maybe its just me.

Don't get me wrong, I love my truck and wouldn't trade for anything, you couldn't GIVE me a gasser. All I am saying is we need to police ourselves better. If these idiots who go from stoplight to stoplight, blowing enough smoke to blot out the sun don't stop (I have seen this on quite a few occasions), we're all going to pay the price.
