Has anyone had a window exploded for no apparent reason? I was in NC for the past 3 days on Business. Parked the truck @ 8 am all was fine. Came out to my truck (2016 3500C&C) at noon to get something and seen the driver door window has shattered. It was still in the door, just shattered. There was no impact mark. There were glass splinters on the inside as well as the outside of the truck. It was a cool morning, but the sun had been hitting that side of the truck all day. Since the truck was parked in a private lot with security, I'm sure that thermal expansion caused the failure, not someone trying to break in. If a break in was the objective, the glass would have been all over the interior and still not in place.. The local NC dealer says there is no glass warranty coverage. They were good about installing a new window glass, but it was $547.94. I have seen/ heard of window glass breaking for no reason just like what happened to me. Has any other members had this happen? Thanks.

Had 2 windows go on my "03" the rear slider and the rear drivers side door window when the truck was fairly new. As you said no sign of any damage to the window, on the rear slider I just got in the truck and closed the door and I heard it disintegrate looked behind me and the window was missing. The rear drivers door was discover when I was going to leave for work one morning (parked in garage), went out and the window looked like it had a million cracks in it. Of course any movement of the truck and it started to fall out all over the place. Do a search on the subject, there was a guy that posted something about when glass is made if the specs. are not exact it can shatter when in use. He seemed to know what he was talking about on the technical stuff on glass.

Happen to our boat last summer. Sun had been on it all day. When it exploded the sun had crossed over the top of the boat and it was cooling. Chris

Google "nickel sulfide inclusions in tempered glass". Pour yourself a large one & sit back- you're gonna be there a while.

I had my driver's window in my old '94 blow out while driving. I was on a 2 lane highway with a moderate cross-wind. A truck going the other direction passed and I'm guessing the slight pressure-to-vacuum change, caused it to suddenly explode.

If the window had a scratch, from scraping ice for instance, when sitting in partial sun, the window will heat up unevenly and expand unevenly, and sometimes will shatter.

Thanks for the replies. I really do feel that the repair should be covered under warranty as there must have been some issue with that particular glass. I'll contact Ram and see if I can get anywhere.

Update: I contacted Ram and had a case number assigned to my request for reimbursement. The case rep I talked with stated that the glass should be covered under Ram's 12mo/12000 mi portion of the warranty. I have submitted the paper work Ram requested. We'll see where it goes from here.

2nd Update: Ram called on 3/30/16 and said they will reimburse me for the full amount. Just waiting for the check at this point.

Too bad the dealer gave you bad info in the first place but at least FCA took care of you. Good thing you made that call.

In the sixties, when I was a kid, we went to go to school and found a shattered front passenger side window shattered into 1/4" squares. Never seen or heard of it since, until this Thread.*

Last year up in Montana a friend was bringing some rodeo stock up from Texas and driving down the hiway passenger window exploded on his 2012 ram
