Anybody come up with a way to keep the inside of the windows from 'hazing' up? I know that they will eventually, But it seems like I'm wiping down the windshield every time I get in the truck. I know it's from the exhaust, just wanted to know if anybody had a way to curtail it. Thanks, Jim.

BTW, Sorry for the long post!;)

I have had good success with a product called Glass Wax. It is a little difficult to find, but look for a pink can. Any old fashioned hardware store can get it if they don't already have it on the shelf.

You clean the window, then wax it just like the exterior paint. The plastic binders from the dashboard don't seem to stick to the wax. My windshields usually stay clean for a couple of weeks after an application.

I used the Rain X anti fog liquid on the inside of the windshield which although it is pain to put on and buff out, once its done, it keeps the windows clean for long time

JGabl-

As Dave says, the haze is coming from the interior plastics rather than the exhaust. As time goes on, they will become less and less. Think what it does to your lungs??

Wow Dave-never thought of that! Hmmm... Guess it has been a while since I've had a new vehicle... ...

Thanks, Jim.

BTW Dave- I noticed that you have an `01 that's Driftwood. How'd that happen?

Jim-

In about 10-years you'll have no haze on the windows (rock chips instead). :D I got my truck in March of 2000 so I was able to get the driftwood color.

That haze is "new car smell. " That's what it's doing to your lungs. If you put armor all (a plasticiser) or something like that you will get that on your windshield as well. This is the first vehicle I have had this kind of problem with. I was attributing some it to the guys at the car wash who don't do a really great job wiping down the inside glass.

Glass Haze

Here's a trick for cleaning the glass - what's black & white and read all over? Yep, I though my Dad was a fool when he told me that one but I finally did a "controlled trial" nothing seems to remove the residue without adding its own streak other than good old balled up gossip-rags! Even the specially processed paper towels can't get as clean. Thanks Dad!!:D

This works for me

I've cleaned the windshield w/ amonia&water mix, but putting on a DashMat seems to keep the nasties from forming as quickly.

Jim,

No way to stop this problem..... What your are doing is about as good as it gets. Just a matter of what products work better/quicker in cleaning it up. Part of fighting this battle is knowing what your dealing with.

The haze you are talking about is from a combination of three elements.

First would be dust, which includes anything from pollen, dirt, clothes & seat fibers to your "dead skin"!

All of which floats around and settles on just about anything it touches. I know what your thinking... . This is a haze... . not like the dust that settles on my dash... .

Your right!!. Quite a bit of the mess on your dash is the result of what couldn't stick to the window.

Second problem is airborne contaminents, including air pollution, smoke and gas emissions from products inside your vehicle.

Third element is tied into number two. Certain emissions are created when heat mixes with various products.

The most common gas emission is from the seat fibers. Not a whole lot you can do about this one... Just something that happens as heat slowly deteriorates the interior of your vehicle.

Secondly would be from silicon based products like Armor All and such. Hopefully this isn't your problem..... knowing what silicon based products do to vinyl and leather over time.

Hope this helps... . at least a little
