Has anyone else had a problem with a leaky washer bottle It looks like the leak is comming from the washer at the bottom where the hoses connect too

just wondering if any one else has had the same problem?

I've got the same problem, but only from time to time... it comes and goes. Really shows up when I fill the bottle up, but then goes away after a few days (leaks down enough?). I don't think mine is a crack in the bottle, but something else, but I haven't had time nor really have wanted to put the effort into figuring it out.

same thing

I at first thought my leak came from the grommet where the pump goes into the bottle. I kept wiping and checking and found the leak on the side. I don't remember exactly where it was but it was an inside bend. I think it was on a seam. I cleaned the area up with sandpaper and left it rough. Got out the trusty silicon tube and forced silicon into the crack and gobbed it around. I filled the bottle and let it set overnight before I put it back in. That was 2 months ago and still no leaks.

Removing the bottle is a pain because radiator return line runs over the tank and has to removed to get the bottle out.

Hope that helps.

Mine too. . . I thought I was going nuts. Poured a gallon in, got in and drove, dam light came on again in short while. Anyway, nice to no I'm not going nuts.

Leaking Water Bottle revisted.

Did a search on leaking water bottles and found this thread. Was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and what the fix was. Is there a source on the net for replacement bottles.

Thanks,Mike

I just had this problem last week and fixed it. Mine was leaking at the seam just above the low fluid float switch.

The bottle is polyethylene I think. Therefore, it can be "welded". I had a piece of HDPE from a cutting board I custom made for the wife, but you can use any suitable scrap of HDPE. Check out a plastic milk jug for the "HDPE" on the bottom (I don't have one here at work to check). A plastic 30 or 55 gallon drum from a car wash is HDPE as are alot of white plastic jugs (wiper fluid jug, maybe?).

Anyway, with a scrap of that and a Bernz-o-matic torch turned way low you can either melt drips of plastic onto the bottle where the leak is or wait until the end of your scrap is liquified then dab it on the leak. Be careful of your scrap catching fire - blow it out if it does. Just don't get the bottle plastic too hot or it will melt through. Clean the leaky area well before trying this for a good weld.

This is what worked for me and it's holding up so far.

Thanks for the info.

JGK,

Thanks for sharing that information. Sounds like a good fix. Im off to the recycle pile to find some HDPE.

Take Care

Mike

You can buy new grommets at the dealer two per pack for 6 bucks or so. I've found that the windshield fluid with alcohol tends to leak and sometimes just changing back to the summer grade stuff stops the leak. Good luck!
