Hi all, it's been awhile since my last post, but now I have an issue. On my 2012 3500 dually, I noticed that my wiper delay stopped working. I can set it on any delay setting and it will not do anything. Sits there like it's in the off position. The wipers will move as I select a different delay setting, but that's it, they will sit there like it's in the off position.

Everything else works, mist, washer, hi/lo. Turn signals, hi beams all work. Tried wiggling the switch for 30 seconds and removed wiper fuse J20.

What controls the delay, the switch, wiper motor or the BCM. Any ideas where to start. The batteries were disconnected about a month ago for cleaning and charging due to the truck not being used as much.

I assume the wipers are working OK in the Lo and High modes.
Do you have the automatic wipers? If you are in one of the "delay" or "sensitivity" modes and the windshield is dry, they will not activate until water is detected at the sensor on the windshield, usually located near the rear view mirror, top center of the windshield.

I don't have auto wipers. I would like a little more info as to what handles the delay before throwing parts at it. It seems that replacing the multi function switch is what seems to fix a lot of issues. Do you have to remove the steering wheel to replace the switch?

Replace the wiper motor assembly itself. The delay is timed out of the wiper motor assembly via the FCM. Usually if the wiper move when you select the delay setting it is the wiper motor assembly. Usually. Sometimes it takes both pieces and luck to make it work again.

I don't have the 2012 schematic so I cannot be 100% in my analysis. If both the low and high switch positions function correctly, and the wipers return to the park position when turned off I would start with the multi-function switch. The intermittent function comes from the switch position along a rheostat and contacts within the multi-function switch routing to the timing circuit. In older systems the timing was generated in the CTM (Central Timer Module). cerberusiam has great knowledge in these systems, so he could very well have the right idea for this series of vehicle.
The MF Switch should not require steering wheel removal. Just a few steering column cover screws, a connector retention screw...and some careful pulling and pushing...reassemble...test...finish reassembling...done. Maybe a half hour if you stop for a beverage break.

I just installed the MF switch today, still have the issue. I guess the wiper motor is next as cerberusiam has suggested.
How much of a pain isn't to replace the wiper motor?

Very easy, take off the arms, take off the plastic cowling, exchange the motor unit and everything back together. That's it.
I'd say one hour job.

Installed new wiper motor assembly today to fix not having delay wiper feature not working. It did not fix the issue. Bummer...

You may have a wiper delay module under the dash. The only reference I found was on the right side of the steering column, but there was no model year noted. If someone has access to a factory wiring diagram the module may be able to get located.

Not sure if it the same in the Rams or not, but when I worked with Toyota, it was the wiper switch that controlled the delay. I was able to add delay to a truck that didn't come with it by getting a combo switch. Was pretty cool since now we could add delay to plain jane trucks as an option. Ram calls it a multi-function switch. I think this is what you need. Good luck. https://www.mymoparparts.com/oem-parts/mopar-multi-function-switch-56046114af?c=Zz1lbGVjdHJpY2FsJnM9c3dpdGNoZXMmbD0yJm49QXNzZW1ibGllcyBQYWdlJmE9cmFtJm89MzUwMCZ5PTIwMTImdD1sYXJhbWllLWxvbmdob3JuJmU9Ni03bC1sNi1kaWVzZWw=
That was the first thing I replaced.

I will look for that!

Sorry that hadn't seen that you had already replaced switch. On the wiring diagram on my truck, there is switch, motor and relays. There are 3 connections going to the BCM. They are wiper park sense - wiper high/low relay control - wiper on/off relay control. Hope this con help in the search to find out what has happened. Good luck.
