The last few times I have used my windshield wipers on intermittent (1st click on) they work fine the first pass then on the second it will start up the windshield about an inch and stop like something is catching. When I flip them up to low, then back to intermittent they work like nothing happened. Is the motor going bad? Anybody else had this happen?

Scott,

The wipers on my 1995 truck have behaved almost like that for years. They don't stick completely, but you can hear the relay click as they start their cycle. I thought it was caused by the delay timer.

Since mine still work, I haven't pursued fixing them, but I do expect them to stop working in intermittant mode someday.

My guess would be the timer, not the motor.

The older wiper motors had a set of contacts in them which were open when the wipers are in park position. Anytime the contacts are closed the motor will run till it reaches the park position again, "intermittent operation", the timer just momentarily bypasses the contacts to start the motor. When the wiper switch is in "on" positions, the contacts are bypassed and the motor runs continuous. If the wiper motors still contain the contacts, the problem is either dirty contacts or a bad connection. bg
