I went to the Atlantic city air show today. It was great!!

Just seeing an F-14, F-15, P-51 mustang, and an A-10 flying in close formation was worth the trip alone.

Simulated carrier landings over the beach, and some 650MPH, 500ft fly by's.

And of course, there was the USAF Thunderbirds.

There was also C-5 Galaxy's, F-14's, F-15's, F-16's, E-2c, and a small jet powered trainer that I forget it's designation. Several more I dont remember also.

I didnt stay for the parachute demonstration.

Security was "tight" I guess you'd call it. Rifles bristling from rooftops, also spotting scopes, SWAT teams patrolling the boards in full regallia with machineguns. Felt a little like Israel.

Weather wasnt great, but OK. Typical NJ summer weather, hot and humid.

as a 18yr. old on the flightdeck of Indy I thought the sound of an F-8 engaging it's single stage a/b or watching a phantom punch a hole thru mach2 was as cool as something could be, 25yrs. later watching F-15's do 80 degree climbs out of Lambert gives me the same feeling, I never get tired of witnessing the power, glad their on our side.

Why would the security be so high?

Being a simple Midwestern'er, is the tight security just standard issue for any large gathering out there? Or, do they worry about a terrorist strike against any "military" target?

No this was unusual. I wasnt expecting this type of security, nor this high profile.

I was actually wondering the same thing. I mean... what are they going to shoot, a "terrorist" plane trying to crash into one of ours?

I did notice lots of binoculars scanning the boardwalk. Maybe theyre expecting Bin Laden???

It was just like you see on TV when they show NYC or Newark NJ... . or Israel.

I suppose they had a reason for it.

I got plenty strange looks from the uniformed LEO's when I snapped a shot of the SWAT guys. Unfortunatly it was on my phone camera, so quality sucks.

I also gotta figure out how to e mail it to myself. :-laf

Last show I was at was at Lakehurst NAWC about 3 years back and the security was nothing like this.

Oh well. It was fun anyway.
