Has any one insalled an overhead (winshield) gauge pod ? How are they for monitoring gauges ? What kind of challenges are involved routing wiring ?

Just sold my 01 and replaced it with an 05 and would like to avoid the visual obstruction I had with my A-pillar mounts .

Thanks in advance , RNH

I do a dash pod and like it. I routed the wiring along the air conditioning ducts. I did drill a hole in the dash for the wiring. I figuer if worse comes to worse and I need to change it one of those places that repairs vynal could do a dash repair.

I like the pod because it is your visual field while looking down the road and you do not have to look at the A pilar seperately, then focus on the gauge you want. All youare looking for are "out of place" readings anyway.

For my wife I put a thin stripe of pinstripe tape on the limiting number (like EGT) and she does not go beyond that tape line. Works well, quick cross check.

If you wonder about the visual field, cut a cardboard cutout of a gauge pod, and tape it in place, then drive with it for a couple of weeks. Mine does not go beyond the hood line.

However, there is one thing I had to change. At night I had a reflection of the gauge faces off the windshield up toward the top of the windshield. I had to put a little hood on each gauge to block the light of the face of the gauge from reflecting on the windshield up high toward the top of the windshield.

We have installed this style pod for customers. The 4 Gauge pod to be exact. The 03-05 Rams allow easy wire and tube routing from the engine compartment and up the A-Pillar, however routing the wires and tubes through the headliner requires patience. If you have the overhead display it takes awhile to adjust & cut the lip that slids under the headliner so that it looks nice when finished. The overhead display adds some interference, but it can be done. The pod is held in place with the super strong plastic style hook & latch system. Just make sure you have the tape halves lined up completely before pusing the assembly onto the windshield. If not it can be difficult getting the pod to stick so everything looks straight and pleasing to the eye. Best of luck!

I installed the gauge pod today, well my son-in-law and I did. It took us about four hours to get it in but I really like it! We still have to install the sending units, the hardest part is getting the mounting plate for the overhead console out so the wiring and hookups to the gauges can be done. Everything is wired down the pillar on the drivers side. The second person comes in handy when your wiring!

Merry Christmas and thank you all for the replies . The night of my original post Mother Nature delivered central Ohio about an inch of ice causing a two day power outage for thousands and I did not feel comfortable firing up PC on generator power .

Special thanks to Kennywould , your picture finalized my decission on gauge mount position . They really look good !
