I had some questions about the fuel at my local truck stop. The soy bio diesel pumps had 70/30 blend signs on them. This was different from last winter. They have never had any blending signs on any of there pumps,I just assumed that they started blending at the appropriate time of year. I rarely ever see blending signs anywhere around here. When I saw these signs on the bio pumps, I thought blended with what? I called the bulk plant that owns the truck stop to get some answers. They said that the bio pumps don't have biodiesel through the winter it's a 70% #2 and a 30% #1 which makes sense they should cover the biodiesel stickers. Then I asked what the regular diesel pumps have straight #2 treated with X1 that is good to about 0 deg F. The 70/30 blend is 10 cents more and is good below zero. I usually use an additive anyway, What do you guys think of #2 treated with X1?

Who makes the "X1" additive?

If its treated correctly, it should run every bit as good as unadditized diesel... we see Winter Flow and Diesel Guard around here. The Winter Flow stuff is supposedly good to -35*F.

I'm assuming the "Diesel" is actually ULSD??

Sorry, I don't know anything about X1 but I always run a supplement year round for added lubricity with the ULSD and to make sure I have no fuel gelling issues in winter. I have been using Power Service since I bought my first Cummins in 99 and have never had a problem. I never believe when the stations say they have "blended fuel" or have an additive in their tanks. Maybe I am too cynical:-laf

I doubt any of them will stand up and accept the bill if your pump dies because their fuel is crap according to the pump manufacturer.
