Was kinda bored so figured I would start a new "current" topic on the matter.

Does any run just Nitrous (without propane)? If so does it raise or lower your EGT temps? I know ADT is working on something, and I know BullyDog has something, anyone else know of others? Pros? Cons? I understand its a good way to get rid of lag if you have any?

nos:eek:  this stuff works great. i just peiced my set together. all you need is a bottle, supply line, 1-2 solienods depending on how many stages you want, one or two nozzels again depends on stages, line to go from the solinoid to the nozzle and a couple of jets.

on my system i'm just adding my second stage. i'm using to settable hobbs switches for the stages. first i hit the switch to trun it on. when boost hits 10lbs the first stage fires, its a 32 jet. when the boost gets up to 20psi the second stage will go it's a 70 jet. you may have to go smaller it all depends on how much un burned fuel you have. just a 70 jet gave me 120hp on a mustang dyno this weekend at bd.

Jim, I'm curious what solienods your using. are they nos brand and if so which ones, power shot, cheater, pro shot. Just curious.

i'm using a nos and a nitrous express. my nos one flows a 50 jet it's little. my nitrous express flows 125. i think it's a pro shot type. i bought the parts used. i think a guy could get a setup for about $400-$450.

Like I said just pondering it is all. I would like to go 13. 5 on #2 dsl only... but not sure if I can swing that. We'll see I guess. Next fall I'll prolly get the urge and tack on propane and nitrous... . and shout for high 12's.

Keep the nitrous comments flowing... ...

I fired off an email to "Diesel" Doug Doring, first off asking to join the DDRA. And then secondly to inquire about his nitrous kit for the 24v.

Here is part of the email : I do have a nitrous oxide kit for your truck. Many people have used them with great success. It should reduce your ET by about one second, it will also eliminate your turbo lag and reduce exhaust gas temp.

I have kits in stock ready for shipping. A single stage kit costs $569. 00 plus freight

A full second off the E/T? Holy cow!!! The reason I am considering Nitrous and not propane is it'll be used for the strip, and ocasionaly street race only..... if I had propane I don't think I would turn it off. This is definatly a winter project I will have to research. . and consider.

Ok I want some more nitrous talk... ... . my curiosity is definatly up for it now.

I was on the NOS (Holley) website and couldn't find a diesel kit? Did I over look it? I sent them an email.

Where do you place the bottle to be "safe"? Getting all excited already.

Wow got a reply already! (From NOS)

"The kits for diesels work by adding nitrous only into the air intake track. This kit will allow you to burn any left over fuel and therefore make extra HP. If more HP were required, we would have to modify the pump settings to up the fuel injected. The part number of this kit is 02519nos and cost is about $545. 00. This kit can provide enough nitrous to burn up to 250 HP worth of fuel. If you mount the bottle in the cab you will need to bolt it to the floor and use a blowdown tube vented to the outside. "

Um that kinda worries me..... do you do it downstream of the intake heaters? I know they shouldn't be "on" anytime your using the nitrous, but you know "what if" they came on? Sounds like "Kaboom" to me??? I forgot to metion to him I already have 250hp worth of fuel :D I sent a 2nd email to them... was surprised they replied so quickly.

Kat..... Nitrous does not burn... so there will be no Kaboom.

Also He was meaning to say 250HP of extra fuel..... if your truck smokes... aka overfueling, you could use nitrous, if your truck does not smoke it is not going to do you any good

So the whole "Kaboom" thing is a myth? I'm a nitrous newbie here so dunno diddly squat bout it, all I know is its starting to look very appealing.

Anyone have some websites or recommended reading on the subject?

Diesel Doug is on vacation all this week so I can't ask him any more questions.

So lets discuss it further.

How big is your tank? Can you carry a "spare" with you full and swap tanks if you run out? Where did you place the tank? Did you buy a kit or piece it together yourself? When do you apply it? How long do you apply it? Single stage? Mutilpe stage?

Surely more then three people run it? (HVAC, MY6EATSV8, and CUMINNTSTRKN) ??

I'm craving info... ... .

Whats considered a conservative jet... . and what is the popular jet? What did you use to gain 120hp Jim?

Hey KatDiesel,

Just to ease your mind... Nitros (laughing gas) is used (or used to be) by dentists to drug people for surgery. It's not explosive, it lowers the temperature of the intake charge making it more dense. So if the tank somehow ruptured in your cab you would just be REALLY happy like you were drunk:)

kat

i used a 70 jet on that run the bottle pressure was around 800-900psi. bullydog and maddog use a 120 jet. i had 100 with me but i didn't try it.

Everything in moderation??

Kat,

Maybe I've lived way too long in the Bible Belt when it comes to "moderation" in modification, but proceed carefully. I'd recommend that you talk with Chris an AutoWurks (sp) Diesel. Good luck with your 1/4 mile et. ;) ;) Nitrous does give a sudden rush... ...

I've been using nos for the last 4 years on my truck. I know am using a 73 jet but soon to move up to a 84(I have one) now that I have some more fuel available for use with my new injectors. I used a 42jet forever just because it did what I wanted. I inject mine between the turbo and intercooler because that is were the air is the hottest, and it gives a more even distrabution I feel. Both HVAC and I dynoed at around 60hp with a 42 and he with a 50 with his injected in the intake manifold. I may have had more fuel available at that time also. The only limiting factor of how much to inject is timing. I know of one guy running a 100 jet but could not turn it on until 27psi boost because it would kill the motor. That would be the binifiet of using 2 stages, one small jet to get things going then another to be added at a given boost.

Good luck guys and have fun.

:)

Since I have a junk motor in my car for the time bieng I borrowed a NOS kit from a friend of mine. Its way to easy to hook up lol. I gained exactly 1 second in the 1/4 but lost almost a . 1 to tire spin lol.

The purchase price is not all you have to consider, that stuff is not cheap lol. The best price around here is $2. 50 a pound, the average I have seen is around $3. 50 a pound. The standard bottle holds 10 lbs. I have a #73 jet on my air side(150hp shot) and can make 4 11 second passes on a bottle SOMETIMES, usualy only 3. And thats even with me turning it off in the MPH traps to keep my RPM down.

You also gotta keep that thing warm so the pressure stayes between 800-1000. If its cold it just won't work, if its to hot it will stick the solenoid either open or shut.

I don't think you ever have to worry about KABOOM on a diesel with NOS(bieng how there is no way to have fire in the intake. . I don't think). However get a NOS setup lean on a gasser and watch the parts fly lol.

Nitrous is cool... right now I have gone an 11. 76@114 on a 20 year old 360 shortblock that I paid $300 for lol.
