Took the snow cutters off "Old Ugly" and replaced the destroyed tire and rim. Using them to switch out the wide tires/rims on "New Ugly" for the old stock tire size 235/85R-16E, BFG Mud Kings with studs. Handling is really different, less squirrely. The tread on the Mud Kings are 7" wide and the other tires are 8" wide. Suprised at the difference. We'll see how they handle in the snow, pretty quickOo. . If they wear well, I may get another set, down the road, IF I can find them at a reasonable price. Discount Tire really got in my wallet with one replacement tire. They had to bring that tire in from Grand Junction. Said "there wasn't a demand for those tires on the Eastern Slope". They always tell me that their prices are the best, Funny that the quoted price on the first visit is never the "best price" especially when you tell them you are going to "shop around". GregH

Snow?

Greg,

We got no real chance of SNOW over here in SC. But got lots of sand and some good chances to get stuck in WET GRASS with a 2WD and Michelins, how embarrasing, tugged out by a Blue Oval, actually two different times, even worse.

Thought about a pair of BFG TA KO's for the rear, but that just might get me more stuck than with the Slickelins.

I'm sure you'll get to test them real soon. Good luck on New Ugly.

Gary, I am more concerned with wear. I know that these tires work well in snow because I used them on the old truck. I am also trying to evaluate the best possible plan for the rear axle. With 0. 4* thrust angle, out of spec. on the rear axle alignment. Do I install a limit slip in the open pod or do I swap rear axles with "old ugly" that already has the limit slip from the factory? Its probably a spring alignment pin issue. This winter will give me some practical information to use for a decision. GregH

Uh, Greg,

Sorry, you jumped out of my comfort or even BS Zones on this issue. Keep the roof side up, inbetween the snow marker poles and see how things look come spring.

Good luck!
