Competition Hooking up tach

Off Roading 5.7 hemi into a TJ

Hey guys... with the pulling season now over and my truck comming off the road any day... we are already seeing snow and the worst part... salt! so this weekend the truck will be hitting the garage for the winter!

Just wondering what most of you do to prep for winter storage. This is the first time I have had to store a diesel so am curious about what should be done to the fuel system and if there is anything to do to the engine?

I am also going to spray all the cast parts (turbo's and manifold) with a light coat of rust preventative oil to keep them from really rusting over the winter.

Any help would be great.

Mine is put away right now as well until next season. I have heard as long as you have a good additive in your fuel, the fuel in the tank and lines should be fine. I use Power Service Diesel Kleen at every fill up, so my fuel should be good until spring.

Your WD-40 spraying of certain cast components is certainly a good idea, nothing really else should need to be done being it is going to be inside a garage. My truck will be sitting in the driveway all winter, so I have to keep it as dry and protected as possible. At least we don't get salty roads or heavy humidity out here in So. Cal. :D

Drain your water injection system or fill it with antifreeze/washer fluid. Remove the batteries (better that they are stored indoors if the truck will be outside). Put a good polish on all chrome/aluminum etc. - even spray it with WD-40. Change the oil if you want, some say the acids in used oil aren't good to store for long periods of time.

I have heard of guys storing cars or even snowmobiles/boat motors and they have sprayed a rust prevention oil into the intake while turning over the engine (fuel off, plugs out) and it keeps the cylinder walls from rusting... . anyone ever did this with a diesel?

Hey Ryan,

it's called Fogging oil,... . i have never used it on anything other then the sled and bike, but it does a good job of putting a nice oil film on everything inside the motor.

After the last pull, we tear the truck completly apart and start over... ...

Except for the wheels, they get polished up and head for the living room.

Well, considering I just spent 3 years putting this thing together... I think I will hold off on tearing this thing completly apart again for now!

This winter I am going to put the twins together, put my water injection system together, polish a few engine parts, and finish my drive shaft shielding and a few other saftey parts.

Scott- I forgot the name of that stuff! thanks for the info. Has anyone else had experiance with fogging oil? If I were to use that on the engine when its cold without using the grids there would be no chance of it firing... or so I hope!
