Off Roading Moab with my truck - what trails?

The #1 blend is in up here. I can (maybe I think I can) feel the power going away, have to press that peddle a little more for the same go.

Ran an 06 or 07 SS monte carlo and couldn't pull any distance on the little V8. I had my cold winter front on, opened, but on and intake temps were near 100degrees on a 30 degree day. I'm sure that didn't help.

What kinda HP loss can be calculated outa winter blend? What about higher intake temps due to a cold winter front?

I suppose if one were to take the BTU's from #2, and the BTU's from #1 and do the math for 50/50 of each and come up with a % number and apply that % to what HP you made on the dyno. One could be close.

I wouldn't be surprised if 50hp is lost.

I have ran diesels for 20 years and have ran straight #2 until 0 or slightly lower before going to a 75%#2 and 25%#1 that is the strongest #1 blend I like to use along with amsoil fuel treatment additive I have never had a problem. If the temps will drop to -20 or below a 50/50 mix is the strongest I have ever used. But only with an extremely heavy dose of amsoil treatment to get some lube in it.

In case I lose it and travel north this time of year, what is #1 blend and when did it go into effect and where?

Bob

I'm sure you can find a map of the % of blend as you go north. But here it's 25% #1 mixed in. depends on fuel stop I suppose.

#1 is a grade "thinner" then #2 diesel has lower gell temps and has less BTU's (as for how much, have never found a freaking number!), more like keroseen-ish in nature. typicaly used up north since it can get to -20-ish I believe before there are problems.

#3-#6 get progressively more crude oil like.
