2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Winter tires for 2wd any suggestions?

I'm looking for some good winter tires for the truck. I've got bridgstone blizzaks on the ford escort and there great, no traction probs. In my 2wd long box traction and stopping suck on icy roads, the fwd car is the vehicle I will drive if the roads are slick. I'm looking for more of an ice tire like the blizzak for the truck but I'm not sure if they make a LT 245/75 16. Any suggestions on winter/ice tires?



I'm planning on adding a few hundred pounds of weight over the rear axle to help traction.

yipes a 2wd in canada, in the winter no less. . Well, you've got a good idea about the blizzaks... I`ve used em before with good results. . We get a lot of snowfall here in pittsburgh, and we have hills -everywhere- , and living on a hill doesnt help my situation. I`ve already added 360lbs to the back of mine, and we had a little over an inch a few days back. . helped a good bit. .



As for width, Ive always heard a thinner tire is much better for winter traction because it cuts into the snow instead of riding on top of it. . havent tried it tho.

I just finished a visit to Alberta, and don't envy you two-wheelin' up there in winter!



Like tp0d I'm near Pittsburgh, where winter roads can be brutal. I'm a big fan of the Coopers (see my sig). Weighting down the bed with 500# of sand is an absolute must, just be sure to fashion a box you can SECURE it in... loose loads are bad news in an accident.

I'm also a big fan of the Cooper M&S and it comes in the LT245/R75 16 that you need. I'm on my 3rd winter on them and even at 1/2 tread they hold better than some of the others new!!!!!!

Try looking for some Nokian Tires, they make several that would work for you and are not all that expensive either.
