Went to my local dealer today and see a brand new Neon with the front smashed and a missing window behind it. I know the main sales guy there pretty well so I ask him what happened.

It seems they had a new saleman. Late thursday he opened the door on a 1990 CTD they'd taken in trade to turn the key and roll the windows up. Well, he's reaching from outside the vehicle and turns the key too far! The truck (it was a stick) started in gear, idled up to and pushed the neon through the window and partway into the show room!

The truck was only idling but the powerful Cummins wreaked the carnage in just about two seconds. :-laf

The saleman involved is now selling beachfront property in Arizona.

I did that once in the shop. I was doing an charging sys check on late 70s Chevy pickup. Well my Dad's got one just like it. I go to fire it up from outside... and realize that it's not an auto (like my Dad's) as the truck fires up and runs the $$$$$ analyzer into the wall. :--)

Luckily it didn't break it, and no one else was in the shop :D

Did a smilar with a 66 GTO Had just gottne home was unloading schoolbooks from truck engine heat soaked and the starter wire melted into the battery wire and it started and went through parents garage door I got in and got it stopped before it hit my mom's car.

My first truck was a 1976 Ford F-150 with the 300-6 and the "3 on the tree". The truck got hit hard by a semi in the front right but was able to get the insurance company to fix. After the body shop had to repaint 80% of the truck, I had a nearly new 12yr old truck with only 60,000 miles.

Anyway, I decided then to get air conditioning installed and after getting it back, needed to take it back due to a problem. While they were fixing the truck they wired a remote start switch under the hood . Well they hit the switch not thinking it was a stick and didn't come equiped with a safety switch. That inline 6 alway's started easily and came to life on fast idle in reverse with both door's open! :-laf. The only thing that kept it from backing itself out onto a busy street was the door's getting bent back and stalling the engine. Needless to say, some of the only original sheet metal left was also going to be replaced which was ok thank's to NE winter salt. Take care everyone!

Hey Jim! I was in the same day getting my oil changed and saw the mess. It not only took out the Neon that went through the window, it wiped out the one next to it also! They told me it was a new sales man that was just out rolling up the inndows on an old Cummins trade in. He starte dit up in gear and off it went! :-laf :-laf :-laf . Just knowing the clown that is on the other side of that window, makes it all that much better! He was the guy that gave me all the trouble when we bought my wife's new Sebring Convertible. . Thinking about it still makes me laugh! :-laf :-laf The salesman was the guy that told me they had no more Jeeps in stock and when I was leaving, there was a yellow one right at the exit on to 7th street! I wish I had my digital camera! :-laf :-laf

I don't think the early CTD's had the switch.

I still claim that the service department is 1st class 6 Star though. But, they got a new kid on the lube rack. He left a drop of Delo on my L-Side fender. . And I just detailed it! I didnt notice it until I got it back home

On a similar note I found out what a CTD could do to a K-car with a 10-year old behind the wheel :-laf I was picking up Kimmie for soccer or something and stopped to talk to mom for a couple minutes. Somebody was in a big hurry and to my horror I heard my truck fire up  Before I could bolt over there and reach through the window to kill it my truck pushed their K-car 5 feet and plowed it into a pile of gravel in the driveway. It demolished the trunklid but there wasn't so much as a scratch on my front bumper, lucky for her. The K-car was headed to the wrecking yard anyway, someone got grounded for a few days, but it's good for a good laugh now.

I work for a dealer and I feel for the guy! Oh the things I can tell you! ANYWAY, when I was int he Army a guy in the motor pool started a Duce and a half through the window and it was in gear! Plus the steering wheel was locked with a chain and pad lock. It stopped after going through a shop door and a cinder block wall. The guy who started it went to pull the engine stop, but was toooo excited and pulled the hand throttle instead! So off it went at full throttle! I was never so glad to be working in commo!
