About a month ago we discovered that mice had gotten into the wiper cowl of my mothers grand caravan, although they couldn't get into the interior of the vehicle the proceeded to fill the entire ducting all the way to the heater core with dog food! We had to remove the entire heating assembly from the inside of the van which turned into a three day affair, something I never want to repeat!

I was searching the posts for problems with mice on the 3rd gen. trucks but all I could find was them living in the airbox and chewing on wiring.

I took apart the cowling on my 04 and I found that the water drains out each side into the fenders. Although it is unlikely that anything would crawl in there I have seen the little buggers in action and they are amazing. I used stainless steel screen and silicone to cover the holes, I wanted to be absolutely sure that nothing of anykind will be getting in there.

I am not really proud of how the final project looks, but noone will ever be seeing it and it was a fairly easy solution.

I have step by step pictures of the project in my readers rigs section.

Just check that screen often. Stuff does get down in there, and rain water will rinse it down into your screens and block them.

Yeah thanks, I know dirt and leaves can get in there, so I'll have to keep an eye on it so it doesnt get too plugged up.

I found mice in between the plastic ( for looks) and the real metal valve cover in my 03 last month. :{ They had chewed up a portion of the noise dampener on the front of ( or near) the cowl.
