I have a pair of axles from a 1990 W350 4x4 CTD. The rear axle has a tag for special fluid for a locker, and has a wire going to the top of the differential housing. What could this wire be for, some sort of electric locker?
Most lockers do not require additive, but most limited slips do. You apparently have a limited slip in the rear axle, they are not the same as a locker. Like Niki said, that wire is probably just for the tone ring sensor.
