Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Wires smoking under pump

Just started working on my 95 2500 I bought it light wreck it runs and is stock. My problem is i am getting wires smoking on the top of what looks like an old time fuel pump ,it is under the pump and above the driver side motor mount. would this be the fuel heater ? The fuel gage is not working dont think it is related.

That would be the fuel heater. I would disconnect it before you have a fire. There is a relay up on the firewall next to the one for the fuel cutoff, that is the one that is bad.

More than likely the fuel heater can/should be removed/replaced. I haven't run mine since summer '98 when i disconnected the relay.
