I have a set of Hella fog lights that I took off a previous truck (dorf). I need to know how the *$#@ to wire the relay for a switched - . I have the trigger wire from the factory fogs found already, thanks to BigSaint. I hope I can get some help here before I pour some tomato sauce ( GRAVY ) on this spaghetti.

Eric

I may be wrong, but I believe you can switch the negative side of the control circuit. I did some poking around using Google, and I found a pretty good page describing relays:

http://www.eatel.net/~amptech/elecdisc/relays.htm

According to that, it looks like you can place the switch between terminal 86 and ground, instead of terminal 85 and the pos. battery terminal.

Down towards the bottom it says:

A relay can be wired so that it will operate when the ground connection is made/broken instead of when the 12 volt connection is made/broken. The diagram below shows the connection. Remember that it doesn't matter which connection (power or ground) is made or broken as long as the circuit driving the relay coil is made/broken.

Mike,

Thanks! That site gives great information and now my lights work. I hope I can return the favor.

Best Regards,

Eric :D :D :D

Mike - I want to come over and install your gauges and injectors... no really I will help if you need some. I have done injectors 4 times and gauges three times. I am getting good at it. Let me know...

Thanks John!

I actually still have your phone number, it's just that I still haven't received my gauges in the mail yet, and I'd wanted to hold off on doing the injectors until I get my hands on the gauges. Diesel Injection Service did tell me that it would be awhile because the ones I wanted were backordered.

I was thinking that maybe if we could get all the Alaska folks together at Speedo's place out in the valley that it might be a good opportunity to do the injectors even if the gauges haven't come in yet. It'd probably also be warmer in Speedo's shop than in my driveway. :D

Ya I think you are right, I just re did my driving lights in the drive way, every time I put a wrench on the ground it stuck in the ice... . I also want to put in my back up lift pump but the back of my truck will not clear the garage door. I have to go back to the slope on the first of Nov for three weeks, so I will be back around the 21st. Let me know if you plan something. I will be around better net access so I will be on the boards more now... .

By the way... I just installed a set of driving lights and came up with a really cool way to switch them... . I used a old style high beam foot switch. It works great... now when I want the lights I just tap my foot and bingo... . lights on... tap lights off.
