Never really done any stereo work and just have some questions. Decided to put a 300w max amp into my 96 2500.

Can it be mounted behind the rear seat of the club cab? If anyone has any good install pics please send them.

Thanks,

Erik

Well Erik you may have 2 issues. One... . if you have the Infinity system... . installing that amp will be an issue. You will need to replace the door and club cab speakers. I installed 2 10'' subs under the back seat of my truck, and I have 2amps in the center under the seat. The amp needs to have air movement around it. Amps generate some heat. The harder you push them, the hotter they get. I would think about trying to place just the amp under the center console seat. In my truck it is dead space... . and depending on the amp... it may have enough room under there.

Hey-

I have installed a new headunit, fosgate front componants, rear fosgate speakers... I'm going to be running a small amp, pioneer 35W RMS x 4... . 300 watts max. I was thinking under the rear seat. I would not mind under the console but one day I plan on putting a small gun safe for quick access to my handgun... . Is that small amp going to get too much heat for under the rear of the truck?? Anyone have any other ideas?

I wouldn't worry about Under the rear seat. That's where mine are. I thought you were gonig to try to figure out a way to put it behind the seatback. You should be good to go. I'll try to get pics for ya.

Erik my brother and I just did mine yesterday... ... . we moved it. If I had caught this I would have snapped one or two pics for ya.

We just simply screwed it down under where the center console is. I ran all my wires through the slit where my connector/wires for my power seat comes up. Its a really clean setup all the wires are ziptied together and out of the way under the seats. I do however plan to do a cleaner install by putting very small slits in the carpet and bringing the wires up through the carpet AT the amp itself this summer when I do some sound deadening material.

Oh also I picked up a small 12V fan from my local CB shop used for about $8. I mounted it on top of my amp via a small bungee cord and two zipties to hold it on the cord. Its wired into the remote + wire and neg wire on the amp so it comes on with the key.

I will try my best to get you a couple of pics later today, although it will be a little harder to see with the seat in place. ;)

Where to mount that amp

Under rear seat w/a 12v ratshack fan would work for that. Front passenger side has most room of the fronts. Not sure what side you wanted your other compartment. I'll try to post a pic of mine under rear seat if I can. --- Proflow

Ok, looks like they went through. As you can see theres plenty of room under the rear seat. And I felt this is what belongs screwed under the center console. Anyone know what that wrench is there for ? Snicker Snikker-----Proflow

1/2" to disconnect batteries for stuck starter? Well I know I have one handy for that even though I have never had a problem and keep everything in top shape to avoid it in the first place.

I installed my stereo January 2006 using parts from a previous install plus some new stuff. I mounted the amps on a piece of plywood on the back wall. I'm running OTR right now so I have a bed in place of the seat. The seat will go back in when I'm done driving this fall and I hope it fits but if not I guess I will have to redo the amp mounting. I am pretty sure I saw pictures from someone else on here who did it the same way so I figured it would work.

Both amps are 1998 RFs. I have a 400. 4 running the components and a 225. 2 bridged running the single 12" sub. The sub is set up kind of temp in a cheap box for now. I will probably do something different and better once I get my cab back when I stop driving. I ran the power cables down one side of the cab and the RCAs down the other side so I wouldn't get noise issues. I ran new larger speaker wires through out the truck, all hidden under the carpet and run through the bellows at the doors so nothing is visible. No I'm not any kind of an expert and know very little on this subject but this setup sounds really good to me and I'm happy with it. If I have time and money some day I might do some sound deadening work. The head unit is a Pioneer DEH-P8600MP. The components are Polk Audio Momo MMC6500 because they were listed as fitting my doors on crutchfield and I found them new for about half price on ebay. There are some pictures of the install about half way down this page: http://picasaweb.google.com/mark9474/TruckStuff
