Im using a 92' 518 auto tran for a conversion in a suburban. It has 3 wiring connectors that plug into the trans. Since I am almost completely illiterate when it comes to electrical. Can someone tell me what these plugs are for and how should I tie these into the suburban when I install this into it? Thanks in advance

The one on the side with 3 pins sticking out, below the shift linkage, is the reverse lights and neutral safety switch. Center pin is the neutral, it just grounds the soleniod. The 2 on the outside is the reverse light, power in 1 side, comes out the other in reverse.

Since you say 3 plugs, I guess you have a 2wd version? The one on the rear is the speed sensor, for the speedo.

The final one should be for OD. Never seen one up close and personal, so i don't know how many wires or anything.

PToombs thanks for the reply. You said the plug with three pins is for reverse lights and Neutral safety. Is the solenoid, the starter solenoid, that gets grounded?

JHumphries Thanks for the website info. I need to research that option more. Im not sure if I need a 518 from a gas motor or if I can do the process on my trans.

Negative!

It's the activator side of the starter relay that runs the starter solenoid that gets grounded.

ie; the key switch powers a relay, which is grounded thru the center pin. This relay passes the heavy amps to the starter solenoid.

Clear as mud?

The neutral safety switch is the round one by the shift linkage, Pete covered it quite well.

The flat 2 wire plug in the middle of the trans is the OD control. The larger wire is 12V powered of a 20 amp relay. The smaller wire is the OD sense ground wire the ECU uses to activate OD. You will need a controller of some kind to automate it or a simple switch that grounds the wire will do.

The connection at the rear is the speedo connection adn most likely won't work on the Burb. You will have to get an adapter to use a cable, a converter if the speed signal is electronic, or block it if your speedo is driven from the ABS.

Thanks Guys, The info is awesome and will help a bunch. This project has been a little delayed as the transmission went out on my daily driver. I will be rebuilding over the next week or so and continue with this as soon as Im done with that. Thanks again!
