I was troubleshooting my truck tonight for not charging properly, and my trucks wiring from the factory doesn't match what's in the wiring diagram. The diagram shows the dark green wire going to ground from the voltage regulator. My truck however has the dark blue wire going to ground. Seems to have worked for the last 200k, but has anyone else seen this?

Oh, I found the problem with the charging system, tap on the alt with a wrench and it charges fine. Gee, I wonder what the problem is.

Might be a good idee to check the connections at the alternator, for tight and clean. I'd hate to replace over a loose wire. R C

If I recall correctly, on my 92 with the regulator integral with the PCM, where the wire goes through that last connector before the alternator, the wire changes color. One color on the alternator side of the connector and another color on the body harness side. That one drove me nuts for a while. I will admit that it may not be a factory situation though. I did all the connector from the alt to the batt when I did R2 the voltage regulator. Didn't help, but at least I know I have good connections throughout.

Moab,

I checked that too, the funny part is that the ground wire besides being wrong color, is in the wrong spot on the voltage regulator connector.

I'm a pointy head in the Air Force, so chase aircraft wiring for a living. It wouldn't be the first time I've seen the diagrams differ from what actually is. I've even changed wiring on planes to match what the diagrams say, because the book is ALWAYS right, just to watch things go up in smoke when power applied. Just wondering if anyone else had seen this with our trucks.

Thanks for the suggestions RC and Moab
