first time i've thrown a wrench in 20 years ...

1) replaced fuel tank sending unit 2 weeks ago

2) fine for two days than instantly developed a hard start

3) 175k mile starter dies

4) new starter buy occasional hard start remains

5) saturday my wife (the angel) crawls under truck ... removes and inspect top of tank connectors ... perfect ... we rub a little bearing grease around as she reinstalls in the hopes of improving seal

6) yesterday truck wouldn't start

7)cracked injectors ... no fuel at first cranked until i got fuel out of one line

8) 1 year old industrial batteries died (i thought)

9) charged batteries last night, they look fine and are cool to touch

10) today batteries have 12. 72 volts ... wire at underhood fuse box has 12. 72 volts ... 12. 72 at starter

with key in run postion dome lights flicker

gauges go apesh!t

clicking under hood

when key turned to start ... nothing ... no dash no dome nothing

could have a bad cable , the batteries may need a load test done on them. Those would be the two things to check.

I agree with p-Bar, I had the same issue a while back. My volt meter said things were good but when I load tested the batteries (make sure one of the ground cables is off) I found a bad battery. Cables are another nightmare all together.

Did you see if the starter solenoid contacts are good?

When you turn key to the start position it turns off power to almost every thing. The exception would be components that need to have power to get the engine to fire.

thanks guys ...

i had two 10 month old napa industrial batteries that went dead ...

knew i was in trouble when i put jumper cables on my truck from the wifes and the dome lights wouldn't come on ...

dead/dying batteries must have increased the amperage and killed the starter
