Archived Wont go into gear!

I replaced my slave cylinder with 360051, and the truck will not go into gear. It has steadily been getting worse (going into gear), so last weekend I pulled the slave out (did not disconnect the line) and reinstalled. The truck shifted a little better. So I replaced the slave. I know the piston is moving, I left it out of the transmission and pressed the clutch to the floor, the piston moved all the way and I could not push it back until letting up all the way on the clutch. So I know it has good pressure and assume there is no air in the line because of piston movement. I tried the old slave same result. I tried the stock piston in the new slave no different. I have had a Cerramettalic clutch for a year with no problems. There are no leaks anywhere. Like most of us I have to have this truck running! Any help is very much appreciated!

Regardless if the unit functions properly un-installed I would bleed it - in the installed configuration. It would even be better to totally bleed to flush old fluid out replacing w/new. Although it appears to work correctly when not installed it might do so even if there were no fluid at all in the system. Air will make things move and hold their positions it's only when the work required to be performed by hydraulics is "tried" by air that problems present. Hence possibly why it doesn't work correctly installed. It's a cheap fix if it works and if it doesn't then at least you've tried the logical step. My $. 02 - good luck.

I'm not sure how to bleed with the slave installed, no bleed valve. I'll bleed more. If this does not work I am considering making a longer rod (1/4").

thanks for your response!Well when I push the rod in there is no air bubbling in the resivoir. I made the rod 1/4" longer still does not work. Anybody want to buy a 98 12 valve, it runs great but won't go anywhere! I'm stumped!

Well the truck is no longer for sale! I ended up putting the stock slave back on with the rod from the 360051. It is still tough to shift but I can move the truck now. I have a couple of thoughts:

1. The 360051 slave is not a Napa part I got my 2nd one at Advance for $60. I bought my 1st one at Napa for $110. It is the same part I have them both to compare. As far as I am concerened they are very cheaply made. I broke the Napa part where the hyradulic line goes in. The 2nd one broke on the rod end under the seal, it was out of the transmission and I pushed on the clutch and the plastic snapped!

2. I guess my master cylinder must be bad, because there is no other reason, that I can see, why the 360051 would not work(the 360051 is larger so it takes more pressure?).

This is no longer a 911, but any thoughts would be appreciated.

When my 98. 5 got hard to shift I replaced the slave also,on the advice of a very good transmission guy. It turned out to be my pilot bearing. That thing was all gone. That's the second one in 135000 miles and the same clutch. If Dodge could get the bearing to last as long as the clutch we would really have great trucks!!
