Howdy, I am so close to passing smog and can't figure out this code P2509. I checked the grid heater relays, they have 12.53v going in and about 10.20v coming out, when key is turned on before cold start. I am not sure if this is correct because it is using power when on. Should it be closer to the 12.5v I have at hot side of relay? I have new terminal post connectors and will load test these 1.5yr old batteries to make sure its not them. Or am I on the wrong track for this code altogether? Any info on this P code would be much appreciated, and what all this has to do with passing smog is got me super frustrated.

That code is usually caused by a bad battery, or a bad connection. I suggest cleaning battery terminals, load testing each battery separately, and checking resistance of your crossover cable. Also, check all of the grounds.

Heck yes! Tested resistance on everything, minus the ECM to Batt, they were all good. Then my friend showed up with load tester and Driver side Battery FAILED. Napa gets a call tomorrow. So after i put a new battery and clear code, how long of a drive cycle would you think I need before smog test? And thanks for the pdf. very cool!

Hopefully you have an inexpensive code reader so you can check when the monitors are complete. Sometimes it takes a long time for them to all run. Also check the stud to the PDC from the driver side battery. It is where the three ECM B+ power comes from.

I drove mine 100 miles and the code cleared. 2007 5.9 with the same code. My smog guy who's an ex- Mopar master tech has had the 2007.5 on up owners drive for 1100-1400 miles and they still couldn't pass. They were usually out of state trucks trying to pass here in San Diego. He had to refer them to the dealer.
