I have a buddy that has a 97 recently it has stopped reving and making power past about 2000 rpm. any ideas?? air and fuel filter was changed. I was going to check the OF valve and pre screen. Looks like all the intrcooler boots are OK.
See if the Fuel shutoff solenoid is pulling up all the way, also pre screen like you said. If not and there is some white/grey smoke past 2k maybe slipped timing or leaky fuel lines
Does it have good power that drops like a rock at 2000 RPM, or so weak that's all it's got? If it has good power to a point then it's not any of the above mentioned items, more likely a governor sort of issue.
A friend of mine had that problem on his '97. It was a fitting on the AFC plugged up with soot because of the EGR. He replaced his AFC with one off a '95. A quick test is to remove the AFC. Cover up the hole with something to keep dirt out and oil in. Take it for a test drive. It should smoke like a forest fire when you step on it and haul butt if the AFC is the problem.
aparently its got good power and then about 2000 rpm it just falls off to very low power and wont pulls hills as fast ect. I will check the solenoid and pre screen but what do I look for in the gov. I have been into those b4 when I did a 3000 gsk. But on a stock one does something move or do those adjusters back off??
