New Member---Trying to figure out how to post a question! Have 98,3500,24

valve, 2 wd, 5 sp, 245k. After engine is warmed up good, If you shut it off it won't start--just spins. After it cools down it starts as normal. I'm pretty sure it is a computer problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have had the same problem and I have found that the banjo fitting at the inlet to the VP loosens up. That has been happening to me you could also have a air leak in your fuel system but if you find any thing out please let us know.

Matt,

Color me stupid but what is a VP? I know of Lift pump (LP) and Injection Pump (IP).

I just don't hang out here enough to know all the vernacular and acronyms.

??????????????????????

VP44 is the Injection Pump

next time it act's up try and bump the starter to run the LP and then try and start it, put your foot on the go fast pedal and try that also.

it could be a start of a VP44 (IP) going bad

Thanks for the information Scott.

I knew what a VP44 was, just not the abbreviated name. DUH!

I am experiencing the same issue recently. I tightened all of the fittings and checked for any fuel drips. I even checked to see if there were any cracks in the fuel filter lid. Only time will tell. 84,000 miles and counting...

More info, When the engine won't start and with Snap-On Scan Tool hooked up---Reads " no bus--no internal communication" Thanks for the quick responses! I'll check the fittings tomorrow. Also I think I do recall the LP seems to run quite a lot when it won't start.

Just wandering what type of LP you guys are running I've got a pusher pump + the oem carter pump on the engine mine starts fine cold but once it warms up it cranks forever mine is a case of to much fuel pressure it starts fine hot or cold with just the stock LP think I'll try a FASS system when I finally get it out of the barn this year Mark.

This sounds like a communication problem, like (hopefully), a bad connection at the VP44 data connector?? Might try pulling the connector, applying some dielectric grease, and reseating the connector. Truthfully, I doubt that will solve the problem, but this error doesnt sound like an air leak. Sounds like a heat related electronic problem. The first thing that comes to my mind is the FedEx board upgrade.

As was stated in the original post "I'm pretty sure it is a computer problem. "

if you do have to replace the LP stay with the factory one, the new one that goes in the tank is not working that well from what i have heard, plus the one in the tank is a lot harder to change if it goes bad.
