Archived '93 Injector pump trouble in MT

My 93 just quit. It started fine twice this morning and I drove about 4 miles total. I had to make a stop and shut the engine off. 15 minutes later when ready to leave and she won't start. Engine seems to be rotating a bit faster than normal while cranking. I have fuel to all of the injectors. What do I need to be checking for ? I had to leave my rig on the side of the road for the time being.

TIA

Push the lingage up with the ing. on , if it does not stay up possible electrical loss,-relay- and or tie the linkage in the up posision. then untie to shut down.

The only way to by-pass the fuel is to remove the plunger from the fuel solenoid then reinstall the solenoid body. To shut off the engine you'll need to use the manual shut off lever.

PS Check the wire that is connected to the solenoid, make sure it is tight and clean and has power.

I got my rig going, but don't think I understand the root of what the problem was. It isn't the shutoff solenoid as everything there seems to be working, clean terminals, good connections. I removed the air intake near the intake heater, waited for the heater to cool and put one very very small shot of starting fluid in. Engine started, I replaced the intake hose, drove about two miles to home, everything seemed to be OK. Cut off the engine when I got home and immediately tried to restart. Wouldn't restart same problem all over again. ABout an hour later I tried again and the engine started but lacked full power and blue smoke big time. Floor boarded she hesitated for about a minute, blue smoke cleared and had full power again. Left engine at idle for about 30 minutes, cut it off, started right back up fine. I think I'm going to change the fuel filter next.

Change the filter. Be careful with the starting fluid. The grid heater can ignite it and cause a serious explosion in the intake system.

If the filter fixes it, that's great. Otherwise, sounds like you might have a leak in the system causing it to lose prime.

Could the fuel be draining back to the tank. There is an o-ring that will let the ip drain when she is off. Mine did that right before I had to rebuild it, but most of the time I could prime her and get it going

Won't start again...........

:( After the trouble I had a week ago, I changed the fuel filter and had not had anymore trouble since... . until this morning. Now it has done differently. The truck started fine this morning and I left it idling for about 5 minutes to run back inside the house and grab something. When I got ready to leave no sooner had I started to back up than she stalled. Now she won't start again.

Did you ever get to checking for voltage and ground at fuel soleniod , I have a symptem close to yours , has not died on me yet but just would'nt start sometimes , long cranks then start , the last owner replaced the solenoid . I would pull the linkage up and it would stay[ with ing. on] and then start, with what I've read hear and experence I think its the relay , have'nt got around to fixing it yet.

No, I never got around to checking the voltage on the solenoid. I did check and clean the connectors and used dielectric silicone on the connectors when putting them back on. I do have a very small drip at the solenoid and I'm trying to get a chance to pickup an o-ring for that. I haven't made any progress since my last post. I did order another lift pump, but that won't be here before tomorrow or Monday.
