it has been sporadically failing to start over the last few months. when i hit the battery it then eventually starts. when it doesnt start there is no battery juice going to the controls or anything. is this a battery problem, connector problem, starter, or something else? i know this is pretty basic, but advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

sounds like a battery problem, but could be alternator---and then the list goes on---what year is your truck---any guages or modifications to the truck----chris

K, first thing I'd do is clean all battery cable connections. If no change, I'd drop by a battery shop and have them load test the batterys. You could have a internal short.

Also, if you could take a minute to fill out your truck profile, it will help with future responces.

Good luck, RJR

battery connections

thanks alot for the tips. it was corrosion at the battery connection. i have a pretty small battery and a previous owner rigged up some heavy duty welding cables to run off of. a contact i have made with a guy who works on deisel semis said he could get me a big battery used from the company for a very good price (they are batteries that must be discarded because they're old but apparently still good in some cases). then the battery connections would have to be altered again from post connections to thinner bolted down connectors. i'm thinking this seems like a good idea partly because i'd like to redo the connections anyway, as they are in one instance impossible to cinch down very snuggly and in the other exposed and messy lookikng.
