As of today all plywood prices are just going to about DOUBLE!! That's right, DOUBLE, and wood prices are going to increase greatly too!!. Guess why? Our Gov't is sending it to Iraq for reconstruction.

Lumber company stated that the gov't took ONE MILLION sheets of plywood.

Check out your wood prices in your area and if they haven't, they wil. If you are going to need any wood products you had better buy them NOW. As in, immediately.

My son and I have been sitting on our hands about Mrs Doc's latest bug-in-her-bonnet. She wants a tool/hen house and we've been stalling her. Your announcement prompted us to get off our butts and go buy the materials.

I could not find the link I was reading earler today, but it talked about the US gov buying 733,000 sheets, but that order was in May, but factorys had to catch up. Then they stopped producing OSB so they could make more plywood, driving up the price of OSB. It sounded like the order was filled for the GOV, but if prices are so high, and you can keep them high by producing less plywood, why not?



I have seen the price start to drop here in PA in the last 2 or 3 weeks. I am getting ready to order around 50 sheets for the garage, so I been watching the price. I am half tempted to wait a month or so. The price change since May is costing me around $500. 00 more in plywood alone.

Why?

Why would they want plywood for Iraq? They have been building earth homes for thousands of years, and along we come with a inferior building material. Oh I forgot, this is for Haliburton...

I was thinking the same thing. Contractor I knew hauled a bunch of plywood and framing materials down to Mexico to build a stick framed house. The Mexicans laughed at him, they build everything out of concrete block. He found out why when five years down the road his wood was rotting and termite infested.

Earth

Some of the earth homes in Iraq have been standing since the time of Christ. They are energy efficent, cool in the summer, warm in the winter. Makes you wonder?

Interesting, must be why the plywood factory a couple towns away laid off 200 people last month.
