Wood screw in a tire

I picked up a wood screw in the tread area on the inside rear tire. I have been told to just leave it alone if the tire is not leaking air.

Since I carry a heavy camper, should I have the screw removed and the tire patched?

I have driven a dually for a lot of miles just to find a bolt in one of the inside rears. I know it had been in there a while because of the wear it had on its head. I would still recomend pulling it and patching the hole. You never know when something will jar it loose and you will start getting a leak. Just my . 02.

Pull it and patch it. It's always the inside rear tire, isn't it? The front tire kicks it up and the rear tire grabs it!

I've been carrying a Safety Seal kit like this for almost two years. It cost 54. 00 and has saved my butt several times. I was at TXRams place last Saturday and saw a nail in my left rear tire as I was about to leave. He asked if I was going to plug it now and I said yes, it will take me longer to find the nail again when I get home than to plug it now.

I've used three plugs to patch a hole caused by a large lag bolt several years ago. I've also plugged at least a dozen holes in the tires on my wife's car.

243,I have a kit similar to that I use on the orchard for my equipment,can't even begin to figure how much down time it's saved. Probibly paid for itself at least 500 times over in just lost time saved,especally when you have to deal with a tractor tire that's filled with 1200 pounds of calcuim choride.

As for the screw,it will probibly be fine until you're miles from nowhere,fix it ASAP.

Which kit did you get for the Dodge? The auto or truck kit? I'm thinking that the tires on our Dodges are more like car tires and not real truck tires. About how much does the kit cost?

About 70% of the time I get a screw/nail in the tread area it doesn't even leak when you take it out.

BTw - I carried a repair kit and can of fix-a-flat with me on the ATV so I wouldn't have to walk back to camp.

Thanks for the tip - I drive in the Sierras - North of Lake Tahoe and feel better with all of the insurance I can get.

Red, I go along with the others... fix it or end up putting the spare on when you really don't want to. If it were me I'd go to Les Swab, have the tire fixed (probably for free), have them rotate all the tires per the owners manual and be on my merry way.

243, You da man! Guys, the Safety Seal Kit is to tire plugging kits what the Cummins engine is to pick-up truck diesel engines.
Get the picture?

I've lost count of how many back-roads repairs I've done with this kit. A year or two later, "strangers" will approach me and say "hey, that tire you patched is still going strong!" Probably the most grateful was one fellow who had apparently gone through a nail field - three flats. He had a spare, but that still left him two tires short. My friends now call me over when they spring the leak, just so they don't have to get down the spare...

Guy's, I see nothing on the box that id's my kit. When I called the distributor for my area, I said a tire repair kit.

It may take a call to Safety Seal to determine the difference. I had to call to locate a distributor in my area.
