Wow! Hard to believe, but I drove 150 miles today and the Carter 4601 pump installed last night to replace the second leaking Summit 3134 pump did not leak. Oo. I don't think the Summit pumps got out of the county before it started leaking. Man I'm getting this pump replacement thing down. LOL

Word to the wise. Make sure you install a shut-off valve betwen the tank and the pump. I did and it paid in spades.

For those that are interested, here are the readings I'm getting from the new pump. Not as high as the Summit pump, but much friendlier to the enviroment.

Idle 14-15 psi

Cruise 13 psi

WOT 10. 5 psi

I can live w/ this. Hope it last a little while.

When you initially posted about the leaking Summit, my first thought was that Rubberneck had the same experience. Seems that there is a reason that the pump is only $99. 00 now, sorry to hear that you had to experience the misfortune, but good info for the other who were contemplating the Summit pump. Hope the Carter lasts for ya ;) .

I've been piecing together the parts for the new PE pump this week. Ended up with a Earl's ball valve for the shut off, which is very close to the same length of the Earl's screen filter I will be removing. It would have been shorter than the screen filter, but the damn thing comes with a female 3/8" NPT fitting on one end which I had to adapt to with a 3/8" to -8AN fitting  . Why can't they make these shutoffs with AN fittings on both ends ??? Maybe they do, but I couldn't find any.

I should have the new pump in this weekend and will post some pics. after the install.

tmacc, is this 4601 pump the only pump you are running? sounds like its back at the tank?

Scott,

We'll see how this one works. Keep my fingers crossed. I'm curious to see how the PE pump works for you. Sounds good. As far as ball valves go, I used a Parker that had 3/8" pipe threads on both ends, so it was easy to stick a couple of AN-6 adapters on it.

TowPro,

Yes, the 4601 is the only pump I running and it's back at the tank. Looks good so far. I'll keep everyone potsed.
