I took the door panel off on my driver's side door for the first time and the clear plastic sheet kind of threw me. I need to replace my speakers and troubleshoot a power window problem, and I'm wondering what the purpose of that plastic is. Can I just peel it out and throw it away?

Also, where's a good place to buy replacements for those little yellow clip-things. I'm missing several and the few that I have are looking pretty torn up.

Thanks,

Mike

I think that plastic is just a vapor barrier. What I did is I cut it with a knife, and just taped it up when I was done with it. Although, I don't think you'd have a huge problem if you just threw it away.

As far as the clips go, I bought mine at Advance Auto. I brought one to compare them to. I think at the time, the closest ones I found were actually labeled "Ford. "

Hope this helps.

The "christmas tree" clips are a common body panel part. Chrysler parts are around $3 each and even dealers buy them from jobbers (auto parts suppliers). I think they're around $10 for a bag of 20.

... . and the plastic sheet is thermal/vapor/air barrier. Removing it may result in a noticeable draft along the window trim and around the door handle.....

Okay, that makes perfect sense. I'll probably go the cut/tape route.

I've been looking at the clips online and I'll probably just go down to the local NAPA with one of my existing ones to help match up the right ones.

Thanks guys!

I had to work on both my front doors. The glue used is not as strong as the plastic barrier material. I was able to remove the entire sheet and then when it came time to reinstall the plastic sheet, I purchased some double sided carpet tape and places pieces in the various points where the glue was originally placed. It worked great and is as good as new. I can remove the plastic for additional work and then secure it as I did previously.
