Well finally after six years of ownership- I'm diving into the rear brakes. I've got a SRW W250 so I will upgrade to the 3 inch shoes. Also, the 1 1/8" wheel cylinders and a brake hardware kit.

Question: in addition to a new axle seal, I remember talk of a "speedy sleeve" or something like that, was that due to a recurring axle leak?

The truck has only 125K miles and this is could be the second time apart- 1st time for me.

Is there anything else to do while I have the rears apart??

Thanks Rich

Rich,

As long as there isn't a groove worn in the sealing surface you'll be fine, I had trouble keeping mine sealed up so I put speedi sleeves on them, it's not to tough. I've got the socket also if you want to borrow it. If you have any ???'s give me a call.

hey Boatpuller... . I didn't know who was on the board anymore-- it's been probably 9 months since I checked in. thanks for the reply... I'm going to pull things apart this weekend and get it started.

I'll call you to catch up on things.....

I upgraded to the oil bath seal... "which are far more resistant to oil leakage when compared to conventional seals. Oil bath seals seal internally so they are a great option for trucks with damaged spindle seal surfaces. "

No leaks!

Hey, I'd be interested in one, too. I have a D70 C&C axle with a slightly boogered spindle, and would like to try something to seal it up. Of course, opening up the vent tube (previous nitwit put a BOLT where the tube threads into the axle, so that could have contributed to the demise of the seal).
