Competition Jesup, GA Truck Pull

Competition Services for Nowel

Anybody intrested in something like this? It will have Nowel's new 11 second caged truck, Maddog(possibly a 10 second pass), Dennis Perry's 11 second truck, David Lott's soon to be 11 second Ford, Quad's 11 or 12 second D-Max, Joe Hellam's 11 or 12 second Dodge, and who knows who else.

The event will be shot in Houston on Dec. 7th, at a DHRA race at Houston Raceway Park.

We are trying to decide if a video needs to be shot and produced for the event.

Any takers?

:)

Being kind of generous with the times, there, aren't ya?

If you are going to bother, have at least two cameras.

Your video only has one camera, but there will be more then one camera. ;)

As for the times, how you figure?

If these trucks reach the 10's I will buy. Hell, I drool watching my sluggish 14 sec runs.

Well that's what Maddog is hopping for. Only time will tell if he makes it or not. :D

The tape will be of the whole event, not just these trucks, kinda like the Thunder in Muncie video.

Sled Puller Highlights '03 has two and sometimes 3 cameras!!:p

Point being, dragracing videos suck from one camera, you need the burn out, then a close up of the trucks blowing past at speed.

300 feet vs 1320=MORE CAMERAS!!

Howa about talking Maddog into a helmet cam?

From my personal experience shooting drag races:

(For crying outloud - use good tripods! )

Get someone setup at the 60' mark - or somewhere a little past that. That way they can get the burnout and launch.

It's a little difficult to pan/zoom quickly/smoothly as the trucks/cars rush past the 60' - but the shot looks really nice when it's well done. This is why you put your more experienced camera operator here... .

Having someone setup at the 1000' mark (or a little into the shutdown area... ) that's about 60% zoomed into the starting line (relatively loose shot) will allow for nice cut-aways from camera to camera. They can slowly zoom out as the truck comes towards them and then pan as the truck goe

I would recommend a minimum of 16x OPTICAL zoom on both of these rigs..... and preferably - both cameras would be the same brand/model... with all of the iris/filter/etc. settings the same. Having to adjust levels and doing color correction from using two different cameras is a bummer and can be avoided.

I'm stepping off my video production soapbox now... . :)

Drew: At least you and I are on the same page.

I wish I could let some folks know how to shoot/edit a show BEFORE I get the finished product.

I'm guessing yall shoot and edit your own stuff? That's kinda rare down here. :(

I havn't gone to school for this stuff for 3 years for nothing man! :D

When I said this: "I wish I could let some folks know how to shoot/edit a show BEFORE I get the finished product. "

I was actually referring to videos I have bought and had nothing to do with any of the production process. There are a LOT of bad videos out there that with little tweaks here and there could be a whole heck of a lot better.

When I went to school for this stuff - we all had to plan/produce/light/shoot/edit our own projects... . then as we progressed we could work as a group to do one big project.

Ok yall!

Things are sounding good. I posted this thread to see of there would be interest, not to say there will be one for sure. Actually the reason WE want to do this video, is so that yall can show it to your friends who have diesel trucks that are not into the performance thing, who can tell their friends and possible show the video. Not really to make money off of it, just a huge promotion video for the whole idea of diesel performance. Also a demo tape that could be sent to tracks we might want to hold a race that aren't too crazy about the whole "diesel thing".

Of course even with the intentions of simply trying to cover the cost, we still need authorization of the DHRA. If there is any money switching hands, the DHRA could very well want some. If that is the case, we will see about simply doing a free download of the video. Kinda like when you get videos off the net, they are most always done without consent.

The sponsors of the Houston race are fine with it, if the DHRA isn't, then we will see where we go from there.

:)
