The exposed and quickly wearing foam rubber on my steering wheel kept me awake nights trying to figure a solution. One of the guys at work turned me on to plasti dip. It is supposed to be for dipping tool handles in for non slip coating but it also works GREAT for a coating on worn steering wheels(among other things!). I got a can of black for around 10 bucks at Alaska industrial hardware. They have several colors if you want to go wild and crazy !! Paint it on with a small brush and it skins over fast and makes a tuff coating that sticks like mad. I put on several coats and am very pleased with the results. Better do a practice coat on a test area to get the hang of it. It skins over very fast so do a small area at a time and work in the shade on a cool day out of the wind! Cover your seat and any thing else that might get driped on. They have an online site at plastidip.com. Also --- cover the can with aluminum foil before you snap on the plastic lid like the instructions say to or you will have a can of hockey puck next time you go to use it!!
