When you have your foot to the floor at what speeds is the TC locking up? At WOT does it lock up in all gears? Or does it just lock up at 70-75?

At WOT, the PCM will shift and lock based on RPM and engine load, not really speed. The speed will be determined by what boxes you have turned on at the time. WOT shift points/lock-up is treated differently than when your just putting around, which is based somewhat on speed. It is not going to lock in all gears whether your at WOT or not unless you have some sort of transmission controller to command it and an aftermarket valve body that will allow it. I don't believe the stock valve body will allow lock-up in 2nd whether you have a transmission controller or not. For me at WOT, letting the trans do its own thing (not using lock-up switch), mine won't lock until I hit redline in 3rd and the trans goes into high gear. Hope I didn’t make that sound confusing.

I'm with AK RAM, I just let the trans do its thing. I really never have looked for the exact speed/rpm that the shift to 3rd and then Lockup happens at. Too busy worrying about about other things. Not that it really matters a lot, I only know one way at the strip. Power Brake to build some boost and WOT until you reach finish line and hope everything is still in place and working.

I'll let the trans do it's thing... I was just wondering if there was lock up in the gears before I redline in 3rd. Reason being with a new aftermarket trans with all the goodies is the truck going to be and feel faster with the better fluid coupling and firmer shifts. Cause when lock up happens two trucks with identical power. . one with a fully upgraded trans (minus a controller) and one that has a stock transmission when they reach lock up the power to the ground is the same. That is if the stock transmission isn't slipping. So if the tc isn't locking up until redline in 3rd or 70+ mph in WOT the truck with the upgrades to the transmission should feel faster up to lock up don't you think? It should be able to convert more of that power to the ground before lock up happens?

Exactly. Upgrading the trans with a really tight converter is almost like adding a box. It feels much stronger with much better acceleration, but in reality you're just not loosing as much HP/TQ through the drivetrain. A lockup switch of some kind can still improve 1/4 mile times though. Most that drag a lot will lock the converter as soon as they hit third gear for maximum power transfer going down the track. It won't help a bunch, but it will help.

My truck should be done tonight (I hope) if not I will pick it up in the morning. I was just wondering what to expect. I can't wait Oo.
