would a boost elbow help?

Boost itself doesn't add power. Boost alone will lower EGTs.

More boost allows for more fuel to be added to make more power. Without a box to add more fuel (and to also fool the boost pressure sensor) you won't see alot of change.

You're probably not going to find anything much cheaper than an electronic fueling box (such as the Edge Juice). I don't know if you're set on the Edge Juice, but if you're not, you can get more power with a TST PowerMaxCR (if you get a pusher pump or something similar) including gauges for the same price if not a little less than an Edge Juice.

why does the tst need the pusher pump? is it because the tst puts out more boost so i have to compensate with fuel. if i get the edge juice will i need a pusher pump?

The TST doesn't necessarily need a pusher pump if you keep the additional power below 120 hp. Since the EDGE's highest horsepower increase is around 120-125, it can get by without one on its highest levels. As far as the boost, more boost does not necessarily mean you have to compensate with more fuel. A diesel won't detonate under lean conditions (more air/boost) like a gasser. So if there is more boost, that means there is more air available to light more fuel. By the way, I don't know what the TST vs. Edge boost pressures are.

For the sake of this discussion, it's relatively immaterial. The point is that you need a pusher pump when the stock lift pump cannot keep fuel pressure at a high enough value for the injection pump to survive for a long period of time. I don't know what this value is for the 3rd gens; for the VP-44 users (including me), that minimum pressure is 8 psi. Anything below that is not recommended. This is when a pusher pump or other solution (FASS, RASP, etc. ) is called for.

A pusher pump isn't a bad idea with the Edge either or a stock truck for that matter. It will simply give the lift pump head pressure. This means that instead of having to do all the work of transferring the fuel from the tank and increases its pressure, let's say from 0 psi to 14 psi, it only has increase the pressure from say 8 psi to 14 psi. (These numbers are for example purposes only. ) This is much easier on the lift pump and usually allows it to lead a long, happy life.

In the case of the TST, their website indicates that a pusher pump is required at higher power levels (>120 additional hp) because the engine would "miss" without it, indicating a drop in fuel pressure. A pusher pump alleviates this.

With either the Edge or the TST, you are going to need to be careful with the transmission when using the higher power levels. Also EGTs become a concern, especially if you are towing. An intake and exhaust upgrade should be highly recommended with either box at higher power levels. This is not to say that they won't work with them, the exhaust and intake just allow for more power with reasonable EGTs. Both boxes would work on a stock truck, they are just made better with these upgrades.

I just recommended the TST because it gives you more bang for the buck, if you want to take your new Ram to high power levels. Even if you don't want to right now, it gives you room to grow in the future.

By the way, I believe there is a running series of articles in the TDR magazine on electronic power enhancers for the 3rd gen Cummins. You might want to check them out.

DieselRam30,

thank you for all of that info i will look into the tst before i buy. i have not yet received any copies of the TDR mag, i just joined this month. but i can say that this site has some very smart people who know what they are talking about, also comes highly recommended.

after doing some research i plan on getting the TST instead of the edge. and you are correct it is about 40 bucks cheeper.

To be able to use any box safely at the higher levels you will need to replace the turbo,on the 600/610's the wastegate will never open-you will overboost and it wont live long under those conditions. ;)
