BD Air Filter Kit

Another turbo question - explanation needed

I am interested in getting a little more power. I have a lot of black smoke and i have read, throughout post, that nitrous would burn off that extra fuel and that it would lower my EGT. is this so. Also what kit would you all recommend. this is not some kit that i would use all the time but just something to have fun with on the road. Thanks for the info.

Propane will help burn the fuel better, and give another 100HP!!!

It really helps with the smoke.

What size turbo are you running, what are your EGT's???

Propane

Yes propane will help it burn BUT it still can cause problems if you get carried away with propane. IMO STAY AWAY FROM DRUGS!!!!!

stock turbo with 14 housing on it is my turbo. i am never on the pedal long enough to get the temps real high. the only reason considering the nos is because it would be a quick way to get power when i am playing with the ford next to me. if you all think it will do more harm then good let me know. thanks

This smoke you have... is it there at WOT, under full boost? If so, you have fuel to burn the N2O with. EGT's will fall during it's use.

At the HP level you are at, LPG would be a marginal gain at best (I'd estimate less than 50hp) and EGT's will go up... it's another fuel where the N2O is an oxidizer.

Also, I would NOT recommend N2O use with anything less than a 40, and I really say not to use it with a 40. Not durable enough to take the big hits.

N2O will not shorten your engine life as long as it's used sensibly and with knowledge... don't just jump in and start using it - learn about it and why it does what it does. There's lots of knowledge out there - but only some of it will apply to diesels.

I have the nitrous express system & it works awesome. The bigger the injectors & the more smoke you have at wide open throttle the more nitrous will help. With my injectors the system that i have makes over 100 horse & lowers my egts by 200 degrees. If you run nitrous buy a good turbo & never turn it on under low boost or you could have a nasty backfire that is hard on intercooler boots. Set up the system with a full throttle switch & a adjustable boost switch & you cant go wrong. By the way i have my system for sale in the classifieds & it comes with a bottle heater. Kurt.

I am getting the smoke at wot and every point that i am on the Go pedal leading up to WOT. Probably the things that need to happen is i need a bigger turbo but i don't was to spend a lot of money for something that is going to give me turbo lag. I have a lot more fuel than i do air. If i could find something that was reasonable i would do it. another reason that i don't want to lose the hx35 is because i have my banks mounted brake.

More air, forget the drugs.

As I understand it, you won't notice the difference between a stock 35 and a properly tuned 40--as far as lag goes.

I'm not completely anti-drug, but I know I can make nearly 500HP without, so why add another fuel system to refill?

I'm running 3's and the UFM and I'm overfueled at the moment too. I pulled 5x3 and 5x5 on the dyno back to back, guess what, same power but less smoke on 5x3. Now I only use *x5 for smoke shows. I tool around on 3x3 and haven't had any fords pose at threat at that level. I only smoke when I want to. Levels 4 and 5 leave a trail. I'm getting a turbo.

When I go totally radical on a 5. 9 and get hung up around 700-800 HP, THEN maybe some drugs. :D :p ;)

a 40

DD and PDR and others sell tuned HX-40's that should take care of you. I'm going for something bigger, but I don't really care about lag and am pushing more fuel. And who knows when I'll add more fuel... :D

will those turbos use up what i have or is there going to be some fuel left over. What i mean is at WOT is it still going to be smoken or just hazy.

You need a 40 sized turbo with a 16cm housing. You'll have just a slight haze behind you at WOT at 5x5. About 450hp or so. If you want it really clean, do a cam.

I did a three-gear, zero to 70-80 blast a few minutes ago, thought I was on 5x3--left a TON of smoke, turns out I was 5x4.

My 35 will clean up level 3 but is a poor choice for 4 and 5. Level three dyno'd 388 hp.

BTW Keith, I was under the impression the the DDUFM race upgrade only applied to 5x5. I pulled 5x3 and 5x3 last dyno run and was very pleased to see that the upgrade applies to all sublevels of 5.

Man if I were you I would buy a rebuilt hx-40 for about $400 and wastegate it at about 40 lbs of boost and then you are set to go. My 40 made over 500hp and hasnt died and it is now part of my twins. And I paid 275 for mine brand new.
