How to "Debadge"

Seeking advice on right truck

A buddy of mine is looking at getting his first CTD. After driving mine of course. lol He found this one near his house.

What I want to know is weather or not it is a good deal. Is it worth getting or not.

My friend really needs to upgrade from his gasser suburban to tow his TT @ 7100#. He tows this trough the mountains a lot and the Chevy sucks.

He is well aware of transmission issues and probably wont BOMB the truck for awhile. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't for a couple reasons. Number one concern would be the automatic transmission with that many miles on it. Second, the price really isn't that great for a single cab. Look on ebay... . lots more selection and you will find a better deal. If it were a 5-speed I would consider it.

I'm not an auto transmission guy either, not to bad of a price, but I would be leary of an auto also. If he is set on an auto, take the truck on a test drive and drive to a local shop and have them check it out for an independent second opinion. Then talk them down of course:D

IMO the price is a little high, but dealers always ask high. As for the automatic transmission vs. a 5 spd. stick, I think he's better off w/the auto as the 5 spd's have the problem with the 5th gear nut falling off.

Also, check the timing gear cover to see if the KDP attacked this motor or not.

Personally? No. A 4WD automatic is a contradiction of terms...

I spent quite a bit less for my truck, but it has quite afew more miles... I searched a long time for a reasonably rust-free club cab, 5 spd, 4x4. If I was willing to settle for an auotmatic, I would have had my truck much sooner... and probably in better condition with fewer miles... but words really cannot convey how much I dislike automatics...

i would say the price is way too high. i recently bought a 94 with similar mileage on it. it was a 5 speed which is more desireable and the body was in the same maybe better condition and i paid 5500 then put stacks on it and a feul plate and sold it for 7800 which is still way less than that dealer wants. if he'd bring the price down to about 6000 it wouldn't be bad, but make sure that trans is good i had a 95 auto and pulled a landscape trailer and snoplowed a bit... ... ... . trans didn't last a year..... and i baby my trucks

I would shy away from this purchase from a cost standpoint only. The fact it has an automatic doesn't bother me, read my sig. My original trans was removed at 257,000 miles only because of a slipping lock-up clutch in the torque convertor only. I have towed many heavy loads, and that trans ran way beyond what I ever expected. On the flip side though, my younger brother has owned a couple of the 5 speeds. He has had his share of loose nut problems, but still prefers the manual. There are far better buys out there for the money, its just a regular cab!!!!

Thanks for the help everyone... . he decided not to buy it after all. Aflter getting the information presented heere and a little more research the price is a bit high and he couldn't get it past the committee.
