Would you convert Dodge to a Ford

This is just a question and a friendly one at that. I see that a lot of people do not like the new Ram and the potential problems that it might have in the future. It did not come out with the things that you thought it might. In that case would you consider buying a Ford or Phord in the future. The new Powerstroke engine(6. 0) is soon going to be out with no Cackle and a new transmission developed with Eaton/Fuller a 5 speed. Joe

when dodge goes wheels up then I might buy a phord it is my second choice in trucks but the new phord is still new also so they may have there own set of new problems. So we will see what happens and i wish them nothing but bad luck!

A V-8 diesel,NEVER.....

Sorry but I've not seen a V configured diesel thats impressed me yet. I've worked on 71&92 Detroits,32&3408 cats,7. 3s ect. And with the 6. 0 having to rev to almost 4,000 rpm to make power I'm still not impressed . I'll stick with the tried and true IN-LINE SIX. After all it can make as much or more power with 2 less cylinders. I for one like the H*LL out of the new RAM,and will probably be getting one,when I get the 99 paid off(cant afford 2 truck payments ). Doug

Absolutely I would, 4 real doors would be great, and yes that is enough reason for me to switch. I could care less what RPM it makes power at as long as it makes power and gets it to the ground. The PSD already runs good and the new one should be even better. The basic ford truck is every bit the truck the dodge is, but the interior sucks IMO. Until Dodge gets their head out of their hinder (and makes a real crew cab with a decent steering system) I will not consider another dodge. MHO.

FFutch, I believe as you do... that a V diesel just doesnt cut the mustard. However, my brother-in-law just bought a new fishing boat... 46ft, twin MAN V-8 turbo diesels @ 800hp each. These are just about the smallest motors that MAN makes! The optional engines in this particular boat are a 3406 CAT and V-10 MAN @ 1050hp These are electronic motors that, at trolling speed, run on only 4 cylinders to save fuel. I need to learn more about them and spend some time around them to report more. But, a V-motor in a truck? Only if you 'just dont get it'!

If you stuck a gun to my head, a knife to my ribs, and similarly accosted my wife and children, it would still require considerably psychotic behavior in addition to some screaming, yelling and physical force to get me to switch to a Ford.



Similar events would be necessary for a Chevrolet, except I would consider the loss of a child or two first.

I thought about a Ford but changed my mind because I know too many owners and all of their opinions vary on the power and fuel mileage. All of the CTD owners I know are happy. Definitely would not give in to a Duramax!

All I can say is after two CTDs, I have no regrets with the Duramax and Allison.



I think its a better package. To each his own.

RCpilot,what dont you understand?I know exactly what he meant,,and as much as I love my Dodge,I have to agree with him,the Duramax/Allison is a better package IMO,for most buyers,stock for stock,which is how most of these trucks are left,there is no comparision,ive driven both,my friend has a dmax,In fact the 01 Dodge Cummins/Auto needs at least an EZ to keep up with a Stock Duramax. I know this first hand for a fact after towing together. I also know the stock trans cant even take an EZ ,and tow heavy without slipping,the duramax doesnt need any mods to pull well,and the warranty remains in effect,not out the window,or having to pull off EZ's before bringing it in. The fact that you can get real crew cab,and a roomy excab with much bigger back seat is the icing on the cake. Im pretty sure my next truck will be a Chevy,if the Dmax holds up well,I need a real back seat,my 3 kids are getting bigger,and Dodge has no interest in this market,Ive been waiting for Dodge's crew cab,but the new 03 crew cab is a joke,so is its shallow,and shortened short bed. As for the Ford,id buy one if the price was right,used,but never,ever new. I am not a big fan of v8 diesels,but id rather have a v8 diesel,and some room,than an I6,and a truck that to small inside for the job,if it came down to it,whn i bought my quad cab,i thought i could get by without the room,and that it was worth being cramped to have the Cummins,but after alomost a yr,im tired of not being able to use my truck,because its too small.

snowman, I could give you several reasons why i like my truck better, but im sure you have read them before. I could of bought any truck i wanted after i sold my 99 ctd,but still ended up with the Dodge cummins.

I think the crew cab thing may be overated, they wont fit in your garage and there hard to park. . No, I think i stick with my little

cummins. . as far as the allison auto, they still dont pull like a manual,if they did they would be in semis(so would dmax diesels). So you still think the chevy is a better deal, to each his own. and what about jake brakes i dont believe they work very well with autos anyway... No the best package can be whatever one wants to perceive it as... .

REPEAT I have nothing bad to say about my CTD's.



I just would like one person to get out of either my 94 or 99 --both of which are stock autos and then jump into a Duramax/Allison and tell me it doesn't ride better and pull better.



And please spare me the "my bombed" CTD will run circles around your Duramax and out pull it. The 5. 9 in our FL-70 will do that too, I just don't want to ride around in it as a daily driver. It doesn't fit through the drive thu.....



This was not intended to be a brand war comment. Simply put I think my Chevy runs alot better, in a better package. And for those that think the quad cab isn't a whole lot different than a crew cab need to ride in the quad cab across the country and then tell me that.



Just like A. A. the first step to recovery is to admit there is a problem.



On edit: As far as Jake/exhaust brake. I don't think I need it. The grade braking feature of the Allsion is awsome. It down shift and stays locked as if it where a manual. Granted the hills around here are not Rocky Mtn High, but the 7 and 8 % around here is no sweat.

Before I purchased Big Green I test drove a 2001 Chevy 2500HD with Duramax and Allison- I liked it but I did check some Dmax websites and there were some serious problems reported although the majority seemed happy- it was more expensive then the newer heavier Dodge and I was not sure about all that new stuff and Cummins has a long history with Dodge so I went that route- in fact I think the Ford styling is outstanding and came close to a Super Duty but it was also too pricey- fact is competition has provided some great trucks and I intend to have another truck along with Big Green as soon as I can and it is going to be from one of the other two because I just love these things and the more the merrier- good luck with the Chevy
