triumphant return of the procrastinator extrordinaire!!!

Would You Vote for Jesse Ventura For President?

Recently saw this on TV. If a armored car somehow someway dropped $100,000 dollars and there was no way you would get caught if you kept it, would you keep it or return it.

If the bills were 20's and not in sequence I would have a real hard time giving it back! The key here is you could use the cash to buy the everyday things (consumable goods) you use, going out to dinner, the movies etc. etc. not to pay off your house or truck... doing something like that could get you caught red handed. Anything over a $20 bill and you also run the risk of being noticed. It would also be a bad idea to deposit the money in one single account... just buy a lock box, and put it there.

If I knew it fell out of an armored car, I believ it would be party time!!!

They have insurance for that sort of thing.

If i just found it, I would have to turn it in, it could be some old ladys life savings.

If it was drug money, they would never claim it anyway, and it would be turned back to you.

Clear conscience is worth a lot of money.

Is this some sort of trick question?

I know... I know, I can't spell. Why you can edit the post but not edit the poll is wierd.

FYI, I have two kids and and a fiancee. I would take the money and run, then give 25g to each kid for college and the other 50g's would go to the truck... ... oh and the wife to be would get my undieing love. :D

I knoe what you meen illflem. I du the same ting - spill chekers shur mak us dummis look purtty snart at tyms :D

I can't help but notice that the spell checker dropped the "B" in your name - :)

I'd edit the poll, but then we wouldn't be having all this fun :)

I'm rght along there with Mike E.....

I'm a sucker for "doing the right thing", I'd give it back without hesitation. Of course, knowing that no good deed goes unpunished, the rest of my life would be full of great opportunities that I would have to miss out on due to lack of exactly $100,000

Piers probably takes cash. If not, 7-11 does, and you can get a money order. My gunsmith takes cash. The "we sell new guns at cost, because we make $$ on other aspects of the business" store @ the south end of town takes cash. the black-plastic (ABS) porta-safe I made takes cash. Darryl the (Diesel) power-broker takes cash... ... ... ..... and so does the rightful owner :{

Absolutely!!!

You know I've had opportunities like that before in my life (not $100,000) but times where I could make out like a bandit and not get caught at someone elses expense. What I've found is that whenever I do that, something else happens to neutralize it. As I get older, I'm starting to belive that karma is real. Everytime I do anything that's a little morally or thically "off", something bad happens to me in return. Maybe it's just bad luck, but after 28 years of the same pattern, I'm starting to believe it... .

So what I might do in that situation is take the $100k and dump it in a Salvation Army or food bank drop box or something like that... . if I kept it I would definitely get screwed somewhere else...

This reminds me of the line in the movie City Slickers where one fella asks the other if he would have sex with another woman if his wife would never know. His response was that he would not because HE would know. For those of us with kids how would we explain/justify our behavior? We wouldn't because we all know it is wrong to keep what is not ours.

There is a troubling metality in todays society that says if someone else makes a mistake we are somehow entitled to exploit it to our benefit if we can. Think of the posed question this way: If a bank teller accidentally gave you $100 too much in change would you be entitled to keep it? If so, would the Bank also get the benefit of short changing you $100?

Dismounting Soapbox now!

I agree, but I thought that was capitalism  and just so no one worries too much, that money would be insured up to 100K. Oo.

You have just proven my point! Is it any more your money because it was insured? Obviously not. Rationalization is the the key to mental health.

KMeeK, I am on board with you and few others here. It is always best to do the right thing because it is the right thing, regardless of opportunity, insurance, getting caught, or karma or whatever. After all how would you want someone to deal with money they saw fall out of your back pocket?

Don't people realize this attitude robs us all in the end. Some that take the money and run because it is insured will probably be the first to gripe when their bank has to raise their teller fees to cover rising insurance premiums... and still they won't make the connection... . and maybe they will but won't care cause after all they got theirs. :-laf Makes me want to puke.

Ok, I guess I am done with my preaching also. :D Flame away if you must.
