I did a search but apparently didn't use the right words so

not going into the actual trucks I have a chance to trade my 06' 5. 9 auto with 3:73 gears with 52k miles for

08' 6. 7 with 6-speed manual 3:73 gears with 87k miles

both trucks are not-modded

I know my 5. 9 will probably need injectors around 100k

The 08' had the ECM replaced at 51K, the EGR at 70k & the turbo at 71K

I will keep the truck until it has in excess of 200k miles

for those of you that had 5. 9's and now have 6. 7's are you happy with the additional power or do you wish you had your 5. 9 back?

do the 6. 7's have the injector issues of the 5. 9's?

truck will be my daily driver and ocassional towing up to 15,000 lbs driving approx. 45k miles a year

please share the pros and cons for those of you that have experience with both engines & transmissions

thanks

My 2011 has been absolutely trouble-free, as was my 2002 ETH/DEE dually. The only hesitation I would have about the trade you suggested is that you'd be getting an EARLY 6. 7L - if it's thoroughly debugged and had all the recalls, maybe it would be as reliable as the later 6. 7s. Dunno.....

So you want to go to a 6. 7 with more miles??? I have never owned a 6. 7, know a lot of people with them and driven some while they seem ok the only way id buy one is if I got the nicer interior of a 4th gen, other wise id never even think about it. Unfortunately the G56 seems just as trouble prone as the 48RE, you can go to a dual disk to solve some but I was never really happy with mine. As far as injectors go I believe (but not positive) the 6. 7's have similar injectors as 5. 9's, I dont think they would last any longer. Good luck either way!

I would certainly move up to the ISB6. 7 with Aisin six speed automatic in the cab and chassis platform again without hesitation.

BUT, I would not make the trade you are considering. I would not want the G-56 manual primarily because the dual mass flywheel is a high failure rate item that with towing usually doesn't last much beyond 70k miles. The aluminum case G-56 is okay but is not as strong or tough as the previous NV-5600.

I also would be a little concerned about the truck you are considering because of it's repair history. It has apparently been used primarily in light duty service and has suffered from soot issues causing replacement of the turbo and EGR.

If the '08 was equipped with a six speed automatic and had not had component replacement early in its service life I would be more enthusiastic.

The '08s generally had few soot issues if used properly. '08s incorporated the programming upgrades that were reflashed into the '07. 5s. My own '08 has been trouble-free and now has about 105k on the odometer.

I appreciate all of the input. I'm going to keep my 5. 9 which is what my gut tells me to do

the 08' was a single cab 4X4 dually which I want one more sometime in my life, I owned several 2nd gens but never a 3rd gen (my wife thinks I'm crazy going to a single cab) however with 87k on the clock it's 08' is bound to need ball joints and it's that much closer to other major repairs, it was owned by a 56 yr old (I'm 58) so I was comfortable with that

I bought my 06' with 5,600 miles on it, immediately put a XX fuel filtration system on it and left it stock, I did put an edge insight on it for guages

I'm going to keep what I have for now, if I can find a low mile 5. 9 I might trade, if not I'll wait until I can get a 4th gen

thanks again
