what are your thoughts on this? Lower egt's & power are a couple of +'s and not too many guys have done it. Besides the initial outlay of $$$ what are the downsides to this set-up. If all things being equal what do you think you'd gain by going to the twins vs. the single turbo. Are you jeopardizing your engine life or drivetrain. pros & cons. let's hear it.
why you ask well why not? I'm curious. I've done searches but there is not a lot of info out there. ----chris

I admit, I'm not entirely sure I understand where you are coming from on this. . Do you have experience with twins on a Diesel?? What benefit did you see over the use of a single?

Are we talking street form or racing?
The guy pulling a 10K lbs 5'r, has different needs than a guy who hopes his truck stays together for the next 15 seconds at the track.

I ask, because I find most people simply don't understand exactly how twins differ from singles, and what benefits they "can" provide.

You ask what I think... I think it'd be a huge waste of money for anyone who uses a truck like a truck.

We are talking about their use on a Diesel, right?

If a vendor offered a kit, I would purchase it. I know Sportbike has been experimenting with the twin turbo setup, maybe he can add to this thread.

Deezal Man-no experience at all with single-double-triple-etc... . turbos... basically my question is; is it smart or stupid for the guy who uses his truck everyday as a work truck--not much towing--some hauling lumber and such--some 4 whl'n--to go twin or go the normal route of single w/ a combo of the upgrades that are available to us--- I've had my truck for 1. 5 yrs and love it and now the bug of BOMB is in my shorts--and I want a rod(for puttin' the wannabees in their place--behind), a 4 wheeler and great running powerful truck---but I want a truck that will last also and that is very important. I know you can use most if not all of the same upgrades with twin as you would a single, so you can't let money enter the equation or you'll cry-just a little. Do I need twins, of course not, as the single w/upgrades will probably do it for me, but in the world of BOMB is a single the best or a twin & why??? chris

The only twin setup available at the moment is from Dave Mitchell for $4,000.

Sportbike's setup is still experimental, more R&D is necessary before it's working properly.

We can exceed the 600 hp mark with a single, that ain't bad #ad

Maybe also get in touch with Adam [My 6 Eats V8's]. I think his truck is a 4x4, and I've seen several of his posts where he talks about a twin setup, though I do not know if he has ever done one. He also does pulling with his truck, but I don't know if he uses the same monster Ram for daily driving. I haven't met him yet, but look forward to doing so #ad

The twin turbo setup that Dave Mitchell has, is on a 2500 2WD converted to a dually. He uses that truck to pull a trailer carrying the famed white monster to pulling events. He told us he pulled 17,000lbs up Jellico Mtn. (in east Tennessee) at 80 mph.
He took a few of us for a ride, it was awesome.
Benefits? I suppose if the bigger turbo "huffs", the smaller turbo will catch the pieces, and you won't need some expensive work on the head... had a friend express that viewpoint to me.
Biggest benefit would seem to be elimination or reduction of turbo lag, which is mostly beneficial only on the drag strip, or meeting a PSD at a stoplight...
True, like HVAC says, you can easily hit 600HP with what's available now.
I don't see a problem with putting twins on a daily driver, if you also use it at the track or the sand dunes...
The additional HP/benefits do not match up to the cost of doing it, unless you can get it done cheaply.

What everyone seems to be forgetting is there is not a problem with EGT'S with twins... . Daily diven or pulling, no EGT probs. Sure sounds good to me... ... ... ... .

I know that enterprise offers a kit for the dodge cummins. However, don't try to ask about what they use because they are extremely hush-hush. But they say that there are ABSOLUTELY NO EGT PROBLEMS, which means that you can fuel the sh*t out of it and you will not exceed the limits of the engine. The only problem is the cost. But I'm actually going to get one within the next six months so I'll report as soon as it's all in and working.

I'm eventually going to get "them" #ad

its mostly for egts for me, it the only way to get enough air in thar to keep egts in check, then I can add more fuel. #ad

I do drive my truck daily when its not broke, seems to be common for me. Its also sitting here patiantly waiting for its new auto transmission, maybe next week.
benifiet of twins is you double your air intake and keep both turbo's in there designed realms, basically you can run two turbos at 32psi and get 64, with no back pressure and very little lag. If you had a big enough turbo(single) to do that lag would be unacceptable. It seems to have no other drawbacks, well other than price. I'm still saving. it'll be a wile. till then I still have my hx40 with the 16 housing limited to 45psi.

The main reasons (that I know) to go with a twin set up are:

-Having a sequential turbo set up allows a wider boost range. i. e. 1 turbo makes good boost from idle to 1500rpm, the other kicks in after that. So you can have a huge high end turbo and not loose bottom end. Great trick, absolutely no lag!

-Easier install on multiple cylinder banks.

I would say tha unless you're looking for oodles of power (600+hp) 1 turbo and some goodies will be fine.

4x4 and TWIN TURBO... hmmmm
Isn't the 4x4 there just so you can get more traction off the line and thus better times on the strip??

Surely you would not take that much power off road would you? #ad

How much do I have to save to get Sportbike's setup?? With a real clutch almost in the truck, it is time to start thinking about the next level

David,
Send Sportbike an email, I am sure he would be happy to give you a quote. He gave me one, I just don't want to post it because I don't know if he wants the price out there.

I am wondering if I get an HX40 now, can it be adapted to the dual turbo set up later if I so desire?? Heck I desire now, I just can not justify it now.

The (Sportbike) twin system isn't available at this time. Check back in a month or so.
More R&D is necessary.
