Would you use a service via the Internet that provided trip routing and listed campgrounds in an area close to your destination or overnite stop?

Also, would you use an on-line reservation service for the camprground?

Just thinking about things... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... .

When we take a trip out of the area, we always find Super Wal-mart's that are on the route we are taking. I have used online registration with KOA on several occasions and would not hesitate to do it again. The Wal-mart option is overnight only.

I don't know if I would use something like that, but I have already seen seomthing like that. Many of the membership systems have services like that already. AAA will also do trip routing and can provide you with RV parks along the way.

We use the Trailer Life directory and an atlas. One of the Exit guides has proved invaluable also.

My 2 cents worth, cause that's all I'm gonna spend!

I find it hard to pre-plan a trip itenerary, too many variables on what's going to happen when. Trip travel times are affected, and routes change at the last minute.

I find that taking it day by day and using that big fat campground directory or WalMart directory to find a spot for that particular night works fine. Even when arriving at the destination and staying for a few days, campground changes are made if found unsatisfactory for whatever reason.

Trip Routing

Jumbo, I regularly fly into different cities for business purposes. I have purchased software that I use and I also use some online sites for maping. 99% of the time, I don't have any problems at all. One time, my software lead me into the middle of nowhere, and said the hospital I was looking for was right there. Go figure! I still rely on software to get me where I am going, with maps and written directions for every turn.

We have a service like that at my work.

You tell them where you want to go, how long, etc.

They'll make all the calls, book reservations, flights, etc. etc.

Jumbo,

I agree with fireman, Trailer Life Directory and an Atlas. Map out how many miles you want to go on a particular day's drive and then go to the Directory. The directory will give you more specifics about the campground and ratings of the campground too. Woodall's is a good directory to have also. We've made reservations online for campgrounds/resorts, but have always followed up with phone calls to confirm... ... one or two occassions it has paid off to do so. For us, planning our trips with the directory and atlas is part of the fun.

I purchased Trips and streets a while back. It has some neat features and doesn't cost to much. (only abput $15. 00 after sams rebate) It tells of most major motels and camping spots and lots of other info.

I use Microsoft Streets & Trips as well. The 2000 version included the _Exit Authority_ database, listing details of services at each exit; when I later bought a newer version (2001 or 2002), it didn't include the _Exit Authority_ data, so I went back to the older version.

I use Streets & Trips for trip planning, but then run DeLorme's Street Atlas USA in realtime on the laptop with GPS hooked up to it while on the road. S&T allows you to program in stops (like fuel stops & overnights) and specify stop durations or arrival or departure times, and then build the rest of the itinerary around that, with actual clock times. SAUSA just runs a total trip duration clock starting at 00:00, but will update the estimated time enroute to all the remaining waypoints, turns, border crossings, etc. , based on your current location and specified speeds.

I had to plan fuel stops pretty carefully with the V-10 (every 250 miles with the truck alone, 200 miles with the flatbed, 150 miles with the 5th-wheel); I'm looking forward to much more flexibility with the CTD. :D

Trailer Life Directory and CDROM version compliment themselves as they do trip planning on the Laptop.

Trailer Life also has an ionline version on the internet that gives "up to the Minute" information.

I have been using the combo since 1999 with upgrades every two years to my personal versions and use the internet version for the latest info.

Good luck with your travels.

For me, it's as easy, or easier, to use the internet than to make phone calls. When you use the internet, you can print out a confirmation. When you call, all you have is someone's word. I use it all the time for lots of things, including campground reservations. Never had a problem.
