Well I Got 2000 Miles On Her And I Got Ants In My Pants So Bad Today Thinking Bout Towing I Had To Do It. i Hooked My 22 Foot Tandem Axle Trailer And Drove My 96 Z71 Ext Cab Chevy On It. i Know The Trailer Weighs Right At 2000 Pounds The Chevey Weighs Like 6500i Think Not Really Sure I Lokked On The Sticker On The Door. anyway Im Thinking Around 8500 9000 Pounds Somewhere Around There. remeber This Is A Bumper Pull So Alot More Tongue Weight. . okay Well First Off I Took It Down Hwy 155 For 40 Miles. lots Of Grades. First Run I Kept It In 6th Gear . i Was Very Impressed It Only Down Shifted On The Steepest Grades And It Just Hummed Right Along. fuel Mileage Averged Bout 10 Mpg Going 65 With 4 Inch Lift And 35s. The Shifting Was Firm And I Could Lock The Torque Converter Every Gear If I Wound It Up First. i Stopped At 5th Gear So I Dont Know Bout 6th. 1st Thru 4th Acceleration Was Better Than My O4 With A Quad Box On 2. at One Point I Was Running 90 Just To See If It Would Do It In 5th Gear. then I Shifted In To 6th. it Just Purred... ... I Cant Really Say Enough About The 68rfe. light Years Ahead Of The 48re In My Opnioun.

It Just Keeps Get More And More Powerful I Cant Wait To See How It Does And 15 Or 20 Thousand Miles. . No Problems With My Particulate Filter Yet Although I Dont Baby Mine Anyway Im Really Pretty Hard On Them While Im Breaking Them In. maybe A Little To Hard. but They Seem To Be More Powerful When They Break In If You Dont Baby Them

Cool. Sounds like a good truck. Some other threads have scared the heck out of me. Mine has 300 miles and is light years ahead of my 03 standard output for sure. The 07. 5 will break the tires loose and lay down twin rubber stipes if you arent pretty easy on the throttle.

That's too cool.

Hi DSpivey:

I pick up my truck from Dishman Dodge on Tuesday. When you say drive it hard, could you describe how? I ask because I'm wondering if some of the problems might be due to the exhaust not getting hot enough, though I know others are towing full time with them, so maybe that isn't the case.

WRStrong: I'm concerned about the DPF issue that others are experiencing too, but I'm not going to back out like others are saying they are thinking of doing.

I think the key break-in is to start gentle for the first 500-1000 miles and then really work it hard to let the engine settle in.

Thanks,

Brad

I think the most important thing the first few days of ownership is vary the RPM & throttle as much as possible, don't use the cruise control, and avoid idling . . . run the RPM up while waiting at lights. Have fun. . .

by running hard i mena running the rpms up alot downshifting alot while im going a little faster than need be. pulling a light load like i was but put my foot in it while im pulliing it . these engines take alot to break them in.

Any empty driving is too gentle for this beast. As long as you don't power brake, or dump the clutch in 4x4. Drive it like a rental. The engine registers idle time whenever you are below 5% power, so most stop and go, and school zones count as idle time. Normal driving, and normal passing on the freeway (to vary speed and load), or on two lane roads if you dare, are good.

The exhaust brake also helps seat the rings faster.
