So i have a 96 12 v and all of a sudden i noticed a fuel leak = blew out the gasket at the top of the fuel filter

replaced the fuel filter and then noticed ----> the fuel hose elbow from the preheater to the lift pump was pancaked down (almost as if it was starved and suction was too great

i checked the screen no blockage replaced elbow

truck was extremely hard to bleed ---- i hooked up a fuel pump got it bled and started

rough idle with pump and wont idle at all without the electric fuel pump used to bleed the system had to keep it above 1700 rpm

i have new marine fuel lines, deleted the fuel heater, and replaced the pancaked fuel elbow

personally i think there might be a problem with the lift pump but at this point I have no clue

need yalls help

i think the cure might be a helman fuel sump and a fass 220gpm HD (bypassing the fuel heater lift pump and fuel filter)

what do you guys think

I'm located in naples FL (truck is in front yard)

How many miles? If you have more than 150k on the original mech lift pump, its probably time to change it. The elbow will get weak, just like any rubber hose over time. .

Try to blow some air back thru both suction and return, just to make sure theyre both clear. Could have algae or somethin in the tank blocking the suction.

When you took the original fuel filter off, was it loose? Strange to blow out a gasket on a filter...

hmm

good luck

When I installed marine fuel lines on my 97 12V, the truck would not start well or idle well. I also had a fuel leak. A fuel pressure gauge showed over 60 lbs. of pressure at the injection pump inlet. I found out that the inner plastic sheath had "folded against itself" upon installation at one end of the return line. Now all is well.

Thanks for the info. Ill get a pressure guage and blow air thru the lines make sure there all clear.

I tried to blow some air thru the fuel supply line yesturday at the tank (huff and puff) no go i guess ill need to get a compressor---- Since the fuel elbow was almost brand new (2 or 3 months old) makes me think the supply line might have a blockage

Truck has a new overflow valve and lift pump is original with 2oo K

I probably gonna lift the bed and pull the sender out and have a look

It might take me a lil while (only take time and money) but i'll let everyone know what the cure is
