HARD TO SHIFT IN D.

I got the bug to upgrade, (finally), so I am going to start at the back of the truck & work forward. When I ordered my truck, I asked for a limited-slip diff. Didn't get it so now I want to put one in. If I remember, it has the 3 series gears. Would it be worthwhile to go to 4:11's? I'll be towing my car(s) around on occasion so the current lower gears will help but I do want the performance of a higher gear. Also, who would I get the diff from, Mopar? Thanks for the advice.

details: 1992 D250 LE Extended Cab Cummins, only mod is an early Banks exhaust.

Cabody,
I'm taking the 4. 10:1 gears out of my truck and going back to the stock 3. 54's. The heaviest load I pull is aroud 6000# which is about what you will be pulling. Everyone tells me the 3. 54 ratio is the best for my service.
Just my $. 02

yeah i will have to agree. i don't know why anyone would want 4:10's. you want that motor to purr so to speak. The power is best below 2200rpms. maybe 4:10's would work good around town but they would totally suck on the highway and you would loose fuel mileage.

I would rather be cummin than stroken

3. 55 r best i de want even a 3. 25 if 1 was

there i carry 4000 lbs

these 5. 9's are grt at low rpms

Don't go to 4:10s gears, unless you want to drive around at 55mph on the highway. I am getting to pull out my 4:10 gears and I am going to a 3:54 gear. My Cumminns screams a 65mph and top speed is 78mph @ 2700rpm. Also why spend the money for a Dana 70? The dana 60 is a good rear end, and it might be a better & cheaper option to upgrade the brakes instead. The cheapest I have seen a Dana 70 go for was about $1200, and thats the one I sold #ad
