Ford Recalls 260,000 vehicles

Diesel in my area has hit a new all time high. 2. 41 at the cheapest stop, 2. 50 at the most expensive :{ . Off road is 1. 93, i am not really sure what caused this, high test gas is 2. 39 here, I have a really big problem paying more for #2 diesel fuel than high test gas, i just have no idea what to do, I have been waiting to go about 40 miles away to get the 2. 41 diesel, everything within 20 miles is 2. 45 - 2. 50. I know the state taxes us pretty heavy (in my mind)(60 cents on the gallon) I am just getting frustrated, my good mileage is really getting offset by cost. That and state wages (5. 65) are not enough to make any progress, i feel like i am working for no more than fuel, half my paycheck goes to just that, fuel to go to work and the store. How can we continue to live like this???? I hate OPEC they stick it to us every time we look the other way #@$%! Thanks guys i needed to vent

Is OPEC the problem? Don't forget there hasn't been any refineries built in the U. S. in something like 30 years! Not to mention there isn't really much in the way of real exploration happening here either. And since our congress-critters have allowed the oil companies to merge there isn't much competition anymore. #2 was $2. 43 here yesterday and "only" $2. 25 up the road in Keyser. I'm sure that has changed by today.

it isn't opec they just increased their ouput by 500,000 barrels a day. it's the lack of refineries and the black hole they call china.

Don't blame the refineries too fast, you need to ask why no new refineries have been built in 30 years? Reason 1 and the only one is that the enviromentalist have made it impossible by opposing everything though the court systems while at the same time, they offer no solution or alternatives. Thats my take on it. Oh and if there is a fuel shortage, how come there are not lines forming at the pumps  can somebody answer that one.

Just a few months ago, I was paying 2. 70 and change! (Oregon) Last time I filled up #2 was at 2. 35, and I was happy! Gone are the days of fuel under 2 dollars I'm afraid.

The price of crude is nearing 60. 00 vs 25. 00 not too long ago. The refineries cannot be blamed for the increase in crude prices, can they?

Politics, EPA,

burgeoning world oil usage, fear of oil availability can all be reasons for the higher price. Producers will charge what the market will bear, they can use oil prices (middle east) as a weapon.

In my honest opinion.

I keep hearing that China and India are to blame for the increase in oil prices, I have to wonder how they are paying for the cost of fuel?

The walmarts of the world are putting them in business, so that would be your american consumer dollars. I'm old school. Buy American. I don't know what a walmart looks like inside. They say there are lots of happyfaces.

fuel is 2. 41-2. 69 here, depending where.

One thing to keep in mind is that the new EPA rules for diesel production of the LSD will increase the cost of production by at least 25%. There was a post about this I believe in this forum some time ago that had a link to this story.

AMEN Sarj! Wal-Mart might be 'lowering' prices, but I won't be able to afford anything if they keep forcing US companies to shut down mfg plants in the US and move to China. Just look what happened to Rubbermaid - bankrupcy because they were unwilling to open plants in China in order to meet Wal-Mart's required pricepoint. $2. 499 here...

sarj is right on the money - - - china is spending all that money we send them - - they now can afford high$$ fuel

So is the price of diesel $2 + in China or India? If so the average worker can afford to either eat or buy a gallon of fuel.

Actually the price of fuel in India is about $5 a gallon. They have also been steadily increasing domestic exploration and supplying more of their needs internally. The standard of living has also gone up, so they are no longer as cheap of a labor source as China - in fact some Indian companies outsource to China. The Indian government has restrictions on foreign investment which further puts barriers up to the export of jobs to India - an American company can't just build a factory in India, they have to find a local partner and then give the partner more than 50% of the ownership.

Not much has really changed there in the last 15 years since I first began regular visits. But you are right - the wages in India are 1/5th of the US, and fuel is more than double. So for the most part, public transport is used far more than private autos. Scooters are everywhere and you can see a family of 5 riding on a Vespa knockoff.

So think the blame has to go on China and their recent economic and industrial expansion. But still, the oil is consumed by business, not the average Chinaman in his Commins 4V Turbodiesel ricksaw.

Remember to thank your self when it says made in china. Stealing jobs for corporate greed. We also feed there economy while killing are's. If yer quick to blame china. Well it's really are fault for buying there junk.
