help on biodiesel/WVOs????

Making your own FuelMizer

I have read post after post of people speculating as to whether or not WVO is going to hurt my 12 valvers or not. I suspect that most people are not speaking from experience. I am willing to take a chance and convert my newest 12 valve auto. I don't like it anyways because of the slushbox. I would like to get some input from someone who has done the conversion and actually runs on WVO. I don't want to sound ungrateful but, if you don't like the idea of WVO please don't respond. I am totally aware of the fact that this is not a perfect fuel source and that there are some risks. Surely someone on hear has converted to WVO and likes the idea of a renewable fuel source. I would like to get some ideas and lessons learned. Thanks, Jeremy.

running wvo will be fine. just need to start and shutdown on diesel fuel. you might have some fuel system problems with all the fatty acids in the wvo. filter it good and you should be fine. biodiesel might be a better route since all the extra plumbing needed will be complicated and prone to problems...

I've converted around 4 12v cummins to a heated WVO system and all are still performing very well. Got to be 50,000 combined miles if not more.

Still waiting for the info/product... . I bought it and it is taking about 2 weeks to get it (backordered) so when I get it and my mixing barrel done I will post pics and stuff.

WVO varies greatly in qualityand the only way to make it truly proper to run in a direct injected diesel of any brand is to fully process it into biodiesel.

Having said that if your set on using it i would suggest only using wvo which is known to have a low ffa (free fatty acid which makes epoxy and other junk in your engine) or processing it to remove the ffa's which is easier and cheaper than making bio because you don't need methanol.

Here is something else to think about.

I have been involved in converting WVO to bio, and in the collection process, I have found quite a bit of water in the WVO. It is taking a fair amount of time to get it to settle out.

Do you want any water in your conversion tank which then gets into the fuel system? NO.

BTW, this is a good way to start a diet!! This WVO is rancid.

Its been a while since I read all this stuff so you would have to look it up on the net (might have been on journey to forever i can't remember but if you search for mercedes wvo or svo you should find it any bio forum is a good place to start reading as long as it isn't stuff written by someone selling stuff) but basically you react the ffa with lye to make soap which will settle out of the wvo. If I recall correctly you still have to wash and dewater it after this
